Wal-Mart, the Anti-US Corporate Chain, is trying to open a new Anti-US store in Tumwater. Wal-Mart imports $18 billion in goods from Communist China every year. China has been flooding the United States with poisoned products, including: Toothpaste tainted with poison & Melamine tainted wheat gluten which is ending up in the U.S. food supply. The United States trade deficit with China was $232 billion dollars in 2006. Forced Slave Labor practices are also used in China PBS Frontline did a series called "Is Wal-Mart good for America" Here is the full program in 5 parts: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Tumwater residents can contact the Tumwater City Council here and demand that the Anti-American scumbag Wal-Mart/China company not be allowed in their town.

Wal-Mart is also just plain dumpy

Submitted by Crenshaw Sepulveda on Sat, 06/16/2007 - 9:56pm.I'd like to say that choice is good. Having a low cost option to buy goods is not a bad thing. Having a place where people can get entry level work for low wages is not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes price does matter and sometimes a job is better than no job.
The notion, however, of a third Wal-Mart in Thurston County is just plain insane. It is not just the Wal-Mart, the second Costco in Hawks Prarie is absurd as well. I know there are those that way that the market place wants what Costco and Wal-Mart are offering and that there is a demand for this type of retailing. We may get what we want today, but what about tomorrow? What happens to us when our choices for spending our money is limited to just a few corporations? Do we really want our retail be like big oil? There is no real competition for gasoline, it seems that retailing will soon have the same advantages over the consumer as the oil companies. As the choices for the consumer dwindle the opportunities for corporate abuse increases. We are digging our own graves with bargain shovels from Wal-Mart and buying our discounted caskets from Costco. People, smell the trap, this is not good for us.

I would disagree on the low wage statement..

Low wages are never a good thing. This isnt some little mom & pop outfit that is about to be taken out by a huge company like itself. Wal-Mart makes millions in profit by paying people squat. Screw that noise. They are leeching off of public infrastructure, they should give back with higher wages, so regular people can afford to continue to subsidize not only Wal-Mart's existence, but also their own family's existence as well.

I'm with you Crenshaw. I still shop at Walmart on occasion for very CERTAIN things. I hate myself for going there though. They are beginning to feel like a virus in this country.
Don't go there at all! Tell
Submitted by OperaGirl on Sun, 06/17/2007 - 7:11pm.I'm not sure what your definition of icky is
Submitted by Norm on Sun, 06/17/2007 - 7:55pm.So I'll just list my items
Target ammunition. I don't always buy from there, sometimes I buy online. Local gunshops charge pretty high prices on ammunition though. I buy non-target ammo from gunshops, but the target ammo is either online www.cheaperthandirt.com or wally world.
The other is toys. I buy from walmart, target, or fred meyer. I've fought the urge to buy the this as of late. Other than the places I've listed, and toys r us (I hate that store) I haven't found a good place.
So what are your suggestions OG? I hope those don't fall under icky, and what does walmart sell that falls under icky?
Ammo and toys. Interesting.
Submitted by OperaGirl on Mon, 06/18/2007 - 9:39am.Ammo and toys. Interesting. I have no idea about ammo. When I buy toys for the kids I usually go to Wind Up Here or Target. Or Traditions. I guess I can't help you after all. I thought you would say something like toilet paper or bread or something. Never mind...
It's alright
Submitted by Norm on Mon, 06/18/2007 - 10:01am.I appreciate the effort.
The ammo is a tough one for me. The toys I can get at target, and sometimes do, but there isn't much choice locally. Wind up here is a great little toy store, but they don't carry transformers and star wars toys. I have a weakness :(
Breaking the habit...
Submitted by Anonymously Larry on Sun, 06/17/2007 - 12:13pm.Mrs Larry is a Walmart cruiser, in that they offer a ton of stuff to look at (and encourage to purchase). I've tried to get her to seek other shopping opportunites (I applaud and join her on trips to the Market)
Read last month's National Geographic on a great look at labor in China. Unfortunately, those folks are cheating and lying their way into those jobs.
I'm mostly opposed to Walmarts treatment of American workers.

Submitted by chad360 on Mon, 06/18/2007 - 9:38am.Hiya- I rarely shop in Tumwater, but I did remember this news item
It would be great it Tumwater asked the same of the Wal-Mart posse--
"make us a green building"
I'd bike to Tumwater from the Eastside to shop at a Green Walmart, regardless of how much they do business with "China"...(as if!)
Anti-globalism is not the answer, that is just another form of intolernace, but I do support thoughtful consumersim, so thanks for the thread bubba z
I agree with you, Chad -

Here is a link to Wal-Mart's happy pages
I muse about a world where there is just one store, but it has all the stuff you could ever want.
Any thoughts?
