It seems to me that the various agencies on the capitol campus love moving into new digs.  For what ever reason it seems that they will move to another location, Tumwater, Lacey, who knows where.  They just get this itch for new surroundings and more spiffy facilities.

I imagine that at some point in time, maybe sooner than later, the Superintendent of Public Instruction will want to move out of that nasty old Capitol building by Sylvester Park.  So this is what I am thinking (picture me rubbing my hands together with an evil grin) the vacated location would be the perfect location for a new Olympia library.  A huge magnificant old building, right adjacent to Sylvester Park.  Library, park, what a fine combination.  Sure the building would need to be restructured to be a library.  I'm sure there are issues to deal with.  But I see in this scheme something perfect.  I see a true civic center.  I can envision the Urban Rest Stop.  I see room for the Free School, day care centers, all kinds of possibilities.  WiFi into Sylvester Park.  The list can go on.

I don't know if the SPI will want to move elsewhere.  The trend is that they will at some point in time, and when that happens we should make our move.  Failing that, I see that a library along with a park would go a long way to creating a true civic center.  Thanks Meta and Jade for the inspiration.

A smear campaign by the National Socialist Movement against Olympia is in progress. An example here on a NSM blog (caution, link direct to hate site).

This is a standard NSM tactic. As they focus on a community, they amp up the rhetoric, and accuse community members of being criminals.

I'm writing a screenplay as a side-project in life.

Actually, I plan on writing a few but this is my first real attempt to write a screenplay which I plan on (in the future) pitching.

At any rate, I need a little input (stevenl's opinion would be much appreciated).

Would it be a realistic scenario to have Pope Benedict XVI giving a welcome speech in Turkey in relation to Turkey joining the European Union?

The 5 NSM members arrived today, June 18th, at about 11:15 A.M. by King Solomon's Reef restaurant, downtown on 4th. I think they leafletted some neighborhoods in Olympia earlier today.

They, the NSM, were particularly hateful towards African-Americans. Solidarity with the African-American community here is especially important if we are serious about working for justice.

Sunday, June 18th- I was in downtown Olympia today from just before noon until a little past 1:00 when the five NSM members left. I first saw them at 5th and Capitol when they were at the outskirts of the street fair in uniform and with Nazi flag.

I graduated on Friday and got to participate in WROC's action opposing Gov. Gregoire's welfare cuts.  I really enjoyed partipating in this action and I'm glad WROC planned this!

A group of five NSM members visited downtown Olympia a little before 11AM Sunday, and walked around the edges of the Downtown Neighborhood Association street fair for about an hour and a half, before retreating to the corner of 4th and Franklin for another half hour.

They left after a total of two hours, and drove home.

Many people have asked - "what would happen if we just ignore them?" Well, this is what happened: they taunted people on the street, looking for a fight, and spent a lot of time asking out loud, "Where are all the protesters?"

They also had the two young men with them, who are seen in the photo at First Christian Church. There are other photos on the way.

They asked where "Sarah" was, and asked if I would give my photos to Drew Hendricks. Silly Nazis.

I'm sure everyone has seen the stories about Katrina aid (UPI: Katrina aid frauds may cost $1.4 billion) and where some of it went.

Drudge linked to the Los Angeles Times's opinion page, with today's titled "A hurricane of fraud?" In the subheading? "It's wrong to blame victims for spending irresponsibility."

That's right. It's wrong to blame the victims for $1.4 billion worth of defrauding the American public ("And that figure is probably on the low side because it only accounts for certain categories of fraud, such as misrepresentation of identity and duplicate payments.")

So really, the $1.4 billion is on the low end of the table.

The entire piece is here.

The government should take every step necessary to get the money back.

I was watching Blow again the other day (for the umpteen-millionth time) and got to thinking, Which movie dad would translate the best into real life?

I would have to say Ray Liotta in Blow.
