Past collaborative attempts of mine were often hindered by realities of distance and time; rarely did I live with the person I was collaborating with and, typically speaking, most people abide by my schedule about as closely as I do theirs. As a result, one or more people have always had to do a lot of work on their own before bringing the results to everyone else. This method is time consuming and closer to traditional data processing than the more ideal parallel processing that collaboration would seem to imply.

I believe this is a problem we are socially in the process of overcoming thanks to the Web. For my Community Knowledge Bank deposit tonight I put forward Zoho. By working together we can accomplish more at less cost to the individual.

Insurgent American is a new blog, featuring some postings of great value for local activism anywhere. I would like to alert local folks to this wealth of information. The site is: insurgentamerican.net. It showcases the postings of Stan Goff, a former member of the U.S. Army's special forces. Stan has a keen mind and is joined by a number of equally talented bloggers. The subjects vary wildly, but are all very progressive. As their "about" button reveals,"Insurgent American is multi-modal, interactive intelligence and communications site. It is designed to be a practical strategic resource." I would like to encourage folks to check out this site and it's astounding archives, considering the site just began in December.

Well its another Friday night and if you aren't at McMenamins tonight there is some great music about town. Eastside Club is hosting the Blackberry Bushes and Head for the Hills. I hear Mud Cat is playing at the Iron Rabbit as well. Both are magnificent local music options.

I meant to post this yesterday, but didn't get a chance. As folks may know, Weekday has been broadcasting from the studios of TVW this week here at the State Capital, and they did an hour just on living in Olympia.

This week, the city council is about what next steps to take in terms of parket downtown (how should we build a parking garage?) and talking about the Town Hall meeting.

Almost every week this is the "What's on the city council's plate this week" review. I don't cover everything, so if you want the full rundown, read the packet and agenda yourself.

1. The city council will consider how and when they are going to build something to address parking downtown. The Parking Advisory Committee would like some answers to these questions:

1. Are downtown goals still current, or have they or should they be updated (downtown housing, 24-hour downtown, market driven, etc.)?
2. What is the Council’s purpose or intent in building a parking structure in downtown Olympia?
3. What segment of the community (downtown employees, visitors, etc.) takes priority in establishing which needs are met by building a parking structure in downtown?
4. Does the City Council oppose the PAC working with other entities (Washington State, Port of Olympia, etc.) in creating a win/win solution through a potential parking structure

2. Two weeks ago the city council held a Town Hall meeting on funding priorities, what people want to spend money on, what they could see cut, and what they'd spend more for. The council and assembled citizens split up into three groups, which each produced some notes on the above topics. Other than the city council's impressions, this is what we have to go by to gauge what our desires are.

Each report had similar categories, but not exactly the same categories, so I squished all three together as much as I could.

Well hot off the AP press is a fairly nice article about the high end home espresso machine market. http://www.theolympian.com/105/story/61287.html

What the Olympian missed is the fact that one of the most renowned and respected resources and companies dealing in such goods is right here in Oly.

EspressoParts.com, Espresso Parts, Espresso Parts NW, EPNW, is where I work full time. However you look it up and you'll find the name plastered in all over the internet, barista blogs, and top home coffee user forums. Forums like Coffeegeek.com Home-barista.com and more.

I work at Espresso Parts full time as webmaster and graphic designer. Although our forte is products, equipment parts and services for the professional coffee community at large, this is precisely what high end home users crave -- High end equipment and goods. Espresso Parts also either stocks and/or sells a number of high end espresso machines geared for the home market - none of the $69 garbage at Linens and Things or wherever.

In fact I just sent a few images of some home and pro and home equipment and tools to Portland Monthly yesterday. They can find us yet the Olympian can't drive down the street? I'm not surprised and I know many of you won't be either. We need a community paper that actually cherishes and supports the local community, and maybe does a little more than regurgitate AP fluff our way.
