I went out walking at lunch today distributing the picketing and demonstration flyers to the folks out on the street and I immediately recognize a problem.
» The picket sign that could be used to prevent citation is too wordy for much of the street population. Some folks handed it back to me, said, hey, I can't read. So I read it to them and then some of them said, oh, give me a copy. But the bottom line is that the picket sign designed to prevent a person on the street from being hassled needs to be much simpler in design and execution. Since I have a bunch of pink paper and I have been printing the flyers on the pink paper, I am thinking that I will set up a simpler handout that folks can use to assert their right to the free speech exemption in the homeless harassment ordinance, aka the pedestrian interference ordinance. I am thinking that this simple picket sign should say: I AM PICKETING. I AM IN THE PINK. LEAVE ME ALONE. Lots of the folks I spoke with said, the ordinance is bullshit, but it's politics and I hate politics. Others said, hey, I am on probation. If I get cited I go to jail. ![]() So, I would love to have some feedback from other folks about the IN THE PINK campaign to support the poor and homeless. What do you think? Also, I am planning to invite the City Council persons to come walking with me to meet and greet the folks who are likely to be most impacted by the ordinance. I think the folks who passed this ordinance should find a few minutes to go out strolling to talk with the poor people who sometimes get so tired that they need to sit down on lie down on the sidewalk. I think the council people need to engage in a little notice to the population that is going to be impacted.

The streets are empty and the lights are out and all the Olympians are tucked away in their beds. What they don't know is that this makes the worm very angry, and the worm will only stand being angry for so many days.
