Today I started removing and covering graffiti along Division, Cooper Point and Bowman. All I used was some Goof Off Graffiti Remover, a paint scraper, some steel wool and some gray paint. It went quick and I covered a lot of ground. Thanks to the lady that yelled "THANK YOU!" to me as she drove past, it made my day. If we all did a little bit we could stay on top of this graffiti. We make this community what it is.

Here is a link to some before and after pics.

If anyone is interested in painting over and needs paint the Habitat for Humanity ReStore (753-1575) has a bunch and it is really cheep.

Christmas morning, at 7:29 A.M. will be the highest tide of the year: 17.1 feet in Olympia

Please join a few of us fools at the Kissing Couple statue that morning (4th and Water Street) to see how much freeboard Olympia has left. With 3 feet of sea level rise predicted this century, our town will have some challenges.

The highest recorded tide in Olympia was December 15, 1977, at 17.94 feet. That flooded much of downtown. It depends on two things: the height of the tide, and the amount of rain filling the Deschutes. The extended forecast for Christmas week calls for showers, which will probably not be enough to cause flooding. BUT, it will be an impressive tide, nonetheless.

I hope someone takes some pictures from this event!

Hola O-Blog Posse, E&I are out & about for the season, shopping on the bicycles. Our trip from Boulevard & Pacific to Fred Meyer in Lacey took 35min(round-trip...and that includes walking around on the sidewalk to the coffee shop...any time E's cyclo-computer detects movement it records, etc...), along a distance of 5.5 miles(round-trip), at an avg. speed of 9.4MPH (top speed of 18.2MPH during the trip).

This trip is not that much quicker in a car, plus no auto fuel was burned...it is bad enough that all the stuff we bought already has a "petroleum history" to it.

So, it perturbs me to no extent that some wonks on this blog consider ecology to be a fad or cult. Has anybody on this blog heard of the term "peak oil"?

I don't want to trade insult or BS.

--I'm just trying to start a local dialog on oil in American society...I figure that no one wants to pollute & that folks all want to save $$$, so maybe we-all can have a productive/reflective dialog:

Ya know we bicycle, but we also have ideas about a non-profit buyers' club that would offer the delivery of products locally to help folks reduce car trips.

-create local delivery jobs

-use pedestrian & bicycle transpo where appropriate & green vehicles for larger items

-feature online portal for individual & group purchasing

-reduce overall cost across the community for staples & basic commodities (like milk)

-form a transportation collective for trip sharing, community fuel depot, and automotive voc/tech.

I'm also interested in learning more about electric vehicle conversions, but this idea is separate from the nonprofit buyers' club. The buyers' club would be a 501c3/501c12 nonprofit, and offer products/services "at cost" like a coop with quarterly dividends for members.

E wants to start a FlexCar down here.

any thoughts?

[7] On the seventh day of Christmas my true love gave to me seven swans a-swimming, six geese a-laying, five gold rings, four calling birds, three French hens, two doves and a partridge in a pear tree.
Sevens swans are tough to beat, but so is our amazing tough nutcracker, or should we call it nut smasher.

Rincon Puerto rico is beautiful! My job is great! Boss's/co-workers, wonderful! And even all these things, with the fact that its raining and cold in oly, do not make me miss my home any less.

On my way to get a gift for my lovely wife, we were driving through downtown and saw a fire truck at the side of the Oyster House. A large hole in the wall and kitty litter all over the ground to absorb the vehicles fluids.

The fireman I spoke to did not know of any injuries, and said the though the crash was caused by a 'younger person, who seemed to be ill'. He was pretty vague and not very forthcoming. He didn't know the kind of car, either. That is as much as I know.

Some here seem to think because they don't hear or read about the use of guns for protection on a daily basis it doesn't happen. So I guess I will post such articles here when I have time.

The below article has some data for you data loving types.

The Wild Grace Arts Winter Solstice event is a movement ritual that blends yoga and dance. It is a process that allows for the release of unuseful patterns, an ecstatic dance to celebrate the return of the light and an opportunity to clarify your intentions for the new year.
