New Orleanians are struggling to regain control of public housing, while homes are demolished to make way for gentrifications. 50% of people who want to return to New Orleans make less then $20,000 a year and have no place to live. There is a tremendously brave woman right in front...a must see. http://youtube.com/watch?v=5jvhp4iZFd0 Another demonstration in New Orleans The website for the organization is And on Democracy Now today Please contact New Orleans City Council Members and ask them to stop the demolitions.

NEW ORLEANS — After protesters clashed violently with the police inside and outside the New Orleans City Council chambers on Thursday, the council voted unanimously to allow the federal government to demolish 4,500 apartments in the four biggest public housing projects in the city.
Read moreSo I made some calls and discovered a place in town. After an introductory meeting where it was determined I didn't appear socio or psychopathic I enrolled in a three month course. I'll be willing to share necessary specifics in PM but since I was one of the few in my class who wasn't there for domestic violence or court ordered reasons I don't want to put too much in the open that could embarrass people.
The main thing that we had to understand before we could move on was that nobody can make you angry. Anger is a natural emotion that is directly related to Adrenaline and our Fight-or-Flight reflexes from Neolithic days. It's completely linked with fear, whether it's fear of being attacked, or fear of losing power, or fear of humiliation, etc.
There's five degrees of Anger (don't ask me to remember the proper order, but there's Irritation, Indignation, Fury, Rage and I think Wrath...I can verify later.) The first two levels you're still in control of your actions and reactions. The final three you're in an increasing state where you honestly have no control.
Have you ever reached the boiling point and just lost it? Someone dropped the final straw and you said or did something you regretted?
Have you ever exploded and then suddenly were empty of energy and couldn't remember specifics about what just happened?
A woman from retired preacher Bill Willis’ church invited him to take a concealed-carry class with her. Though Willis had never been particularly interested in firearms, he agreed, obtaining his permit, purchasing a .22-caliber pistol and practicing with it regularly.
Not long after, Willis’ wife, Judith, woke him in the middle of the night and announced there was an intruder. Willis spotted the man darting into the bathroom and quickly retrieved his Walther P22. Police say he warned the suspect three times, “Come out with your hands up. I have a gun and I will shoot.” The man exited the bathroom and approached Willis, pretending to surrender, then pulled out a knife and viciously stabbed Willis’ arm. Willis shot and killed the assailant. Deputies have temporarily seized Willis’ pistol as evidence, but he purchased another. “It would be foolish not to be prepared,” he said.

This is the second in a series of eight posts about the eight folks who want to take Doug Mah's old seat on the Olympia city council.
You might think that Jim Boyde is the business end of the list of eight people who want to be on the city council. But, he's not. It's Joan Machlis, the former owner of Wind-Up-Here, probably one of the top five business establishments downtown.
She sold the shop, and now wants to be more involved with the city and community.
In addition to owning the downtown toy store, she has also been:
She's also turned her property into a federally recognized wildlife sanctuary. In addition to having a well rounded professional background, she sounds like a freaking saint.
A new commenter at Olyblog, groovyyaya, had this to say about Machlis:
Found this online... Yes some inflammatory language at times, but still interesting.

Here is some local blogging that has caught my interest, listed in no particular order:
I'm going to pick my favorite blog from every month this year. Some months were slower than others. For instance, I think in April I only wrote 8 blogs. Slim pickins. But it is what it is.Memoirs of a Gouda
We like having the public know what’s going on during the salmon season setting process, and we are committed to sharing information. Fish and Wildlife commissioners indicated they want to take a more active role in the North of Falcon process, and we welcome their involvement.Being Frank
I was passing the brewery tonight, and in the main building...which must have been the offices, there were Christmas lights, and a Christmas tree. WTF? Who put those there? Isn't that building pretty much deserted? There was also a string of lights on the balcony railing.
