Well, I followed the advice you gave me in your 3/25/07 column and whacked the little fellow across the room in a public place. A cranky OPD officer muttering something about OlyBlog and "pinkos" (I think he needs a vacation) promptly took me away and I was a guest of the Crowbar Hotel for awhile. So thanks a lot, oolyps! Smooth move, Ex-Lax!
» But still, I'm a forgiving guy. Plus, I'm in another jam and need your help. Here's my problem. I'm not sure how this happened, or how long it has gone on, but a little monkey has his hands buried deep in my nostrils. I can feel those hairs on the back of his tiny hands brushing against my olfactory nerves, with that peculiar monkey smell. He is way in there and his grip is merciless. It feels like his fingers are deep in the center of my head, enslaving my brain. Going out, of course, is an impossibility. Most of the time I can't see his face, but occasionally he'll raise his head and look at me with a resigned and weary expression. I think he is as trapped as I am. So what do I do? Yours, Snoodle B. It's been about a month since I originally began challenging people to photograph Doug Mah in the wild. So far: zero, zilch, nada. Our friend Ehver Green may have spotted him somewhere, but I've yet to confirm that with him. So I'm going to put it out there again. If you see Doug Mah in public, not in an official or campaign capacity, let us know. So little is known about Doug Mah, the person. Many people have opinions about him as a politician, or, as Crenshaw would say: "slave to his conservative overlords", but who is Doug Mah really? Whatever your political leanings, don't you want a leader who is of the people? I know I don't want a mayor who lives in a tower, I want a mayor who is my neighbor and an active member of the community. Now let's get out there and find Doug Mah!!! btw- I have to mention the above photo, which I found on the LOTT website (Doug is on the board of directors of the wastwater treatment plant). This is clearly supposed to be the classic faraway look that many politicians use to appear stoic or thoughtful, but Doug Mah doesn't really pull it off. To me, he looks like maybe he has a tack in his shoe, or he's got a tummy ache.

Prosecutors alleged four friends – Pillatos, Butters, Kurtis Monschke and Pillatos’ girlfriend, Tristain Frye – ran into Townsend shortly before 1 a.m. March 23, 2003, on the railroad tracks under the East 26th Street bridge, not far from Townsend’s makeshift camp. ![]()

I'm working up an Oly May Day Series that I'll post over the next several days or so. We can begin with this excellent essay by Eric Chase - A History of May Day In Olympia:
» Some old timers recall that May Day was celebrated in many of the nearby timber camps and picket lines throughout the Olympia and Puget Sound area, but accounts of any downtown labor parades are missing. As early as May 1st, 1919 though, Olympia sponsored a May Day festival that had less to do with labor and more to do with nature. Most certainly connected to the pagan roots, Olympia High School hosted the festival boasting that over 250 pupils would participate in a theme of "Voices of the Wood". Read the entire essay and learn about the IWW in the NW, Queen of May, "Olympia's most pretentious parade", and more.

» #2 especially makes me laugh because I myself would never, ever, ever do that. Nope. Not me. Nor is #3 even relevant to my blogging endeavors.
