Ok, so I'm really feeling dumb here. I can't honestly remember the last time that I felt this inadequate in the wisdom/knowledge department. So, take pity on me.

So, I have been half-heartedly looking into buying a home. Besides looking at a few loan sites and trying to muddle through the Washington homeownership website, I know nothing. To be honest I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by it. If anyone out there can throw a link my way, advice, tips, hints, or just a pat on the head I would really appreciate it.

I know, out of all of the problems to have in the world this is low on the totem pole. I really appreciate any time you can give though.

Thanks,

Norm

In the Electronic Intifada
1 May 2007

On 17 April the Olympia, Washington City Council voted 4-2 against official recognition of the Olympia-Rafah Sister City Project. Of the few news organizations following the story, that was the headline. But it wasn't really the news.

Possibly noteworthy was that more than 300 people attended the standing-room only public hearing on the project. People waited outside the building to get in to comment and observe. Forty-eight people spoke in support, 24 people expressed opposition. Hundreds of letters and emails flooded the city on the topic. Numerous phone calls also came in, according to council members.

What remains worth exploring, examining and scrutinizing was why the city council vote went as it did, and what was said by citizens during the open hearing on the matter. For anyone seriously studying current American popular opinion on the Middle East, a trove has been collected in Olympia during the last couple of months. Collect it, save it, dissect it with a scalpel. Link

David Lynn, photojournalist par excellence, and humanitarian, brings us remarkable stories of tenacity and hope in the middle of pending starvation for Darfurians in Chad refugee camps.

Sunday, May 6, 12:30 pm at Olympia Unitarian Universalist Church, 2200 East End St NW, off Division and Elliott

Come hear David reflect on his trip to Chad in winter, 2007, share hsi experiences an dphotos, describe working with Mia Farrow; the amazing people he met, and 10 actions we can take to stop the genocide in Darfur-Chad. He can tell us where to send money for specific supplies needed, and will soon be returning to conduct rescue work. David’s presentation is in collaboration with the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee’s Drumbeat for Darfur campaign. UUSC’s president, Charlie Clements, is an old friend and fellow humanitarian of David’s.

Hope to see you there.
