Here's a belated Mother's Day greeting:

Rhododendron

One of the wonderful things about the Rhododendron is the longevity of its blooms.

Do you know of a possible site for this event?

>Site Requirements:

1. 15-20 acre rural site within 30-40 minutes of Olympia.
2. Flat for at least 10 acres and the rest could have very gentle slopes.
3. Open pasture land without too many ruts/holes.
4. Along a river would be ideal.
5. Distant from neighbors who might mind the noise.
6. Owners of the land who are supportive of our cause.
7. Available for a week in mid August or September.

If you know of a possible site or want to get involved contact us at: barterfaire@yahoo.com or call Carrie @ 360-357-0262

The Olympia Family Barter Faire is being created to build community, support a local economy, provide educational opportunities through workshops and skill shares, promote the arts, and work towards local sustainability. Our events will encompass values that reflect a respect for diversity and the vision of a socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable society.

What is a barter faire? It is a two-day event where hundreds of local and regional vendors will come together in a family style gathering to barter their crafts, produce, cuisine, skills, and collections of stuff. The location will be in a beautiful rural spot near Olympia. There will be camping and daytime visitors, singing, dancing, music, conversation, and many volunteer opportunities.

Wouldn't that make it a "meta-co-op"? Whatever you call it, this could this be the solution to the problem which seems to face the Olympia Food Co-op at present; namely, that it will potentially be inhabiting a space that is roughly twice as large as it can fill. A meta-co-op could provide an organizational structure within which negotiations and agreements could be made among local co-ops who would like to join in the rehabilitiation of the post-Safeway building in downtown Olympia. A whole bunch of co-ops under a single roof!

Just a thought.
