Fort Lewis has now lost well over 100 soldiers to the occupation of Iraq. I think it is important to keep these deaths on the radar screen given the lack of necessity of the current military action in Iraq. The invasion was unjustified by national security prerogatives. There was no WMD or terrorism. The occupation, contrary to making the USA (including Olympia) safer from terrorism, is actually exacerbating and inflaming anti-US sentiments.

It is far past time to end this unnecessary military action. For the sake of us all, but especially our neighbors over at Ft. Lewis, let's start to bring them home now.

The annual Capital City Marathon is tomorrow. It's pretty exciting for me, because I registered this afternoon for the Half-Marathon. That's pretty much the farthest distance I have ever run in my whole life, so I figured it would be wise to start small. Maybe I can tackle the whole 26.2 miles next year.

My first goal is to make it to the finish line and be healthy when I get there. Secondarily, I would like to finish the race in less than two hours. That makes out for a 9 minute mile pace.

How about you? Are you running in the marathon tomorrow? Have you run in previous years? Do you have a lot of distance running experience? What is your goal for tomorrow's race?

If you're interested in watching the race, here's the critical info: The Marathon starts at Seven AM. The Half starts at 7:45 AM. The race starts and finishes at Sylvester Park. The race route is defined at the race homepage (linked above.)
