When I last suggested that EMMINANT DOMAIN could be useful for helping the disabled, homeless and elderly, by acquiring abandoned properties for the public good, the Republicans attacked! Well maybe they weren’t Republicans but the dogma some used sure smelled familiar and I was hit with crazy viral spam within a day. They reacted emotionally, ignored the premise, and used the standard “either/or” choice that uses fear as a means to discount the idea. Others commented more rationally with critical thoughts and questions. I appreciate critical inquiry much more than the Regan-esque call to the 9 scariest words (which was hypocritical crap because he was from the government). But I digress. Let me lay the idea out more fully and I invite comment.

First, the City counsel will not likely do anything to anger the local real-estate association., so out-right confiscation of used homes or businesses is unreasonable and highly unlikely.

Second, The City Counsel will not likely do anything to anger the voters, so out-right confiscation of used homes or businesses is unreasonable and highly unlikely.

Third, Subsidies are decreasing both in volume and substance. HUD/HATC, Food stamps, Medicaid, TANIF, public mental health, VA services and other related government programs meant to help the poor, disabled and elderly are serving a larger population with fewer dollars. That is a fact.

Fourth, EMMINANT DOMAIN involves adequate compensation to the owner, is a process beyond a single act, and is meant serve the public good. There is always debate.

I'm headin' out for a spell. Be back the end of next week. Everybody play nice while I'm gone. You're in good hands with the docents.

From the Olympian:

TUMWATER — The family-owned Benaroya Co. of Seattle has agreed to buy the former Miller brewery for $45 million, a deal with huge ramifications for the old brewery and the community if the deal wins bankruptcy court approval.

The purchase agreement was included in a series of court motions filed this week to end the bankruptcy proceedings involving the 120-acre property now owned by All American Bottled Water Corp.

The sale is contingent on approval by U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Paul Snyder. He is scheduled to consider the motions July 5 in bankruptcy court in Tacoma. Even then, Benaroya can pull out of the deal if it discovers significant problems with the property during the inspection period before closing.

I'm buying a pair of used turntables and a mixer off of Craigslist, and we've agreed to meet halfway in Tacoma on Saturday. However, I don't really have any way of trying them out and making sure everything is in working order. Is there a park or a community center with plug in outlets we could use for a few minutes for this purpose? I don't know much of the Tacoma area, so I'm looking for help.

Submitted by Anonymously Larry on Thu, 06/14/2007 - 6:02am.

As I registered yesterday, and began to enjoy the musings of others, I took note of a post that was directed at me, a few days ago.

A recent blog by another person included my name, bringing up the question "who is Larry?"

The explanation, by another, as to who I was, somewhat shocked me.

It's true, I have taken strong exception to posts made in the comments threads of the Olympian.

It's true, I have responded stongly to those that attacked me. (Someone even attempted to post what they thought was a personal address to assist those that wish to harass, luckily it wasn't me)

It's true, that my politics might not exactly align with the entire Thurston County populace.

So, I resolve with this.  I'm no one special, nor an animal that bites.  I'm a social liberal, with a fiscal conservative streak, that still understands you need government revenue (aka taxes) to pay the bills. (we can always seek to monitor that our money is being spent correctly).  I'm a nearing retirement (a few years yet), married man, empty nesting, that enjoys politics, golf, travel, my wife, my family and helping others.

What I've seen on this blog in the past half day, seems to be a rational community and an enjoyable atmosphere.

I hope I can add to that.  Guide me when I need guidance (thanks to Rick for the tip on bold type.  My eyes are getting worse, maybe it's time for a checkup) and treat me as you wish to be treated and I'm sure we can all learn together.

Sincere regards,
