Anyone else getting repeatedly flown over by an airplane tonight?

It must have flown over near my house almost 20 times now. Seems to be getting lower too. What's up with that?

Interesting and informative news article:

Chinese Muslims Ordered Released From Guantanamo

By Del Quentin Wilber
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, October 8, 2008; A01

A federal judge yesterday ordered a small band of Chinese Muslims being held at the Guantanamo Bay military prison released into the United States by Friday, rejecting the Bush administration's contention that it could detain them indefinitely without cause.

It was the first time a U.S. judge has ordered the release of a Guantanamo Bay detainee, and the first time a foreign national held at the facility in Cuba has been ordered transferred to the United States.

U.S. District Judge Ricardo M. Urbina issued his ruling in dramatic fashion from the bench in a packed courtroom, saying he was ordering the release of 17 Uighurs because the government provided no proof that they were enemy combatants or security risks. Under the order, the men will live with Uighur families in the Washington area until a more permanent situation can be found.

85 million years ago, on Tuesday, Thaddeus crawled out of the primordial ooze, scratched himself, ate a handful of dry dirt, and then went about his first day in the open air.

10.5 thousand years ago: Man emerged from the wilderness to apply for the first high interest payday loan. Sucker.

8 years ago: There were payday loan branches everywhere waiting. It was the apex of man. Ever afterwards there would be sure and steady decline.

Yesterday: Stock market tanks. Economy on verge of collapse. Too many Payday Loan storefronts, not enough cash. Price of Tulips skyrocket. Doom. Doom.
The fatal flaw in the theory of value exposed for all to see... but wait! What's that in your ear! A shiny Quarter! Remember to buy gifts in the shop on your way out, and tell your friends. I'll be here all week.

The Tyranny of Oil: Antonia Juhasz on “The World’s Most Powerful Industry—What We Must Do to Stop It”

Along with so-called clean coal technology, both of the major presidential candidates also supporting expanded offshore oil drilling. We speak to Antonia Juhasz, author of the new book The Tyranny of Oil: The World’s Most Powerful Industry—And What We Must Do to Stop It. [includes rush transcript]

Guest:

Antonia Juhasz, author of the new book The Tyranny of Oil: The World’s Most Powerful Industry—And What We Must Do to Stop It. Her previous book, The Bush Agenda: Invading the World, One Economy at a Time.

AMY GOODMAN: Along with so-called clean coal technology, both the major presidential candidates—Barack Obama, John McCain—are also supporting expanded offshore oil drilling. Last month, the Democratic-led Congress let expire a twenty-six-year-old ban on offshore oil drilling.

Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin is now pushing to also allow for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Palin’s campaign slogan has become “Drill, baby, drill.”

To me, the real question is, "will this election take place in the voting booth or in the courtroom?"

I guess I'm already skeptical about this election, and am curious if anyone else around here is feeling the same way?

I think that 2008 is gonna be close, and I am more than 50% convinced that the court will be involved-

-and, musing along those lines, I feel that if McCain is promoted by the court over a popular vote for Obama (or vice versa), there could be real problems for American democracy & domestic safety.

I don't want to be alarmist or fan the flames, but I just don't have any trust or confidence in the system (not that I had any since 2000).

I think this "debate" as moved beyond parties and is hovering on the precipice that separates the rule of law from chaos and hegemony
