I am working on putting together another local open carry dinner.  Due to popular demand on the OC board, it will be at Old School again.  This would be the third such meet there.  Clothing required, guns optional.  Open minds a must.

Discussion on the topic here...   I'll update here when a better idea of the date/time is reached.  Until then feel free to chime in!

I was given an old hatchet in sorry shape.  I'm slowly reworking the edge on it (really mangled, may have to re temper it too) and the handle is also beat up but serviceable.  I thought I would try my hand at making a new handle as well.  If someone has a piece of wood that would be serviceable for fashioning into a hatchet handle I would be interested in buying it or trading with you for it.  Thanks!

The following is an excerpt from a Green Pages article written by former Mayor Bob Jacobs. He is a member of Friends of the Waterfront, a group that is opposed to a rezone proposal for urban waterfront areas on the isthmus (peninsula). The proposal would accommodate building heights (and luxury condominiums) of over 90 feet in some areas. The current building height limit is 35 (plus some roof-top utility structure.)

go to original

...

Friends of the Waterfront has been calling for a comprehensive community-wide visioning process to determine the shape of our waterfront area. The general public should determine how this vital area will be used to support the high quality of life we all want to continue to enjoy in Olympia.

The next step in the city's consideration of the isthmus rezone proposal is the public hearing before the Olympia Planning Commission at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, at the Olympia Center. Tentatively, people will be able to sign in starting at 5:30 for a slot to testify.

Meantime, we seek Letters to the Editor in support of our position. We also have yard signs, and window signs available for distribution.

Please visit our website (www.friendsofthewaterfront.org) for all the information on this proposal and links to city files and letters to the editor. See the Images section of the website for interesting commentary on the proponents' misleading graphic depictions.

Hola, I was just online and checking out the Thurston Geodata Center for owner info about the Capital Building, and found this info:"The Views on Fifth Avenue".

I'm trying to get a roof-top tour of the existing building, with the goal of taking a series of pictures (panorama) while this building exists (before build-outs occur), so I was looking for contact info for the building manager to I could request roof access.

If anyone can help me get this accomplished, I'd be very grateful.

Waters gets 6 years for UW firebombing, Seattle PI

"...A key to Wednesday's sentencing hearing in Tacoma was whether actions of Waters, who acted as a lookout and provided logistics support to her ELF compatriots, rose to the level of terrorism.

...Waters' attorney, Neil Fox, sought to scrutinize the government's definition of terrorist. And he asked the court to sentence his client to no more than 18 months behind bars.

"The court should be cognizant of the misuse of the term 'terrorism.' The term clearly has been manipulated by those seeking to advance their own political agendas," Fox said in a filing with the court. "It is the scare word of the day, and the consequences of the expansion of the use of the term to brand defendants can lead to grave injustice."

Fox argued that Waters should not be subjected to the terrorism enhancement, which could add decades to her sentence, because the jury had not found her guilty of conspiring with the other four defendants in the case. Waters "was not part of the broader ELF/ALF conspiracy," Fox said in court filings.

And he claimed his client, who continues to maintain her innocence, had no motivation or intent to intimidate anyone in the alleged arson attack. "There is no evidence that she chose the target or that she even knew about or cared about" the botanical research taking place there.

The government scoffed at that contention, while acknowledging that her actions didn't rise to the level of flying a plane into the side of New York City's World Trade Center.
