There is no reason why Olympia can't do this, but yet we're not. Go figure.

I'm thinking what we have to

I'm thinking what we have to do is to get a broadband connection into the Olympian Apartments, right by Sylvester Park.  The olympian is 6 stories high and they have a nice antenna mast up top.  The connection would cost around 50 bucks a month.  The equipment to spread the signal around downtown would probably cost a couple hundred bucks.  I'd imagine with proper antenna location, and a high power signal we could cover a significant area of downtown.

Sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands to get the higher up powers to do something.  I think this would be a great experiment and we would also be helping the seniors and disabled in the olympian apartment with a broadband connection, not to mention the Fleetwood.

I propose we call it OlyNutria Net.

I meant to shut off the comments on this post, so we could discuss it over at Better South Sound. Sorry.
