Update: I've been waiting for YouTube to post this all morning, but I have to be away from a computer for a bit, so I'm putting it up with the hope that the video will become available soon.

Second update: Well, I'm back and no progress. I heard a tease on the radio for a story on NPR about YouTube. I'm guessing that they were slammed with traffic this morning. Let's hope they get their systems moving again soon.

Third update: Finally, it works!

Olyblogger JanetB attempted to purchase Plan B at Ralph's Thriftway today and was refused despite the fact that she had a doctor's prescription. Witness:

It says that this video is no longer available! =(

I just loaded it.

It takes a few minutes for YouTube to make it available.

Ooops.

More technical difficulties. I'm reloading the file again.

Talking to Ralph

Tried to find this directly on YouTube by looking under Ralphs and all I got was way too many videos of people barfing in the toilet.  I didn't know there was such a huge market for this material.  I dread to think what else they have video on.

"I would make it impossible for the covetous and avaricious to utterly impoverish the poor. The rich can take care of themselves."

I think this is funny

One of the Storman's biggest monetary contributions to a political cause was $500 to something called WORKERS AGAINST JOB KILLING RULES
»

I found it

I searched Olympia and Ralphs, and it said the video was removed by the user.

This is an ideal use for

This is an ideal use for BitTorrent file sharing.

The heavy, complex style client for windows and other computers is at http://azureus.sourceforge.net

A popular small windows client is at http://utorrent.com

Very nicely done movie. How did you make it? Personally I would rather hear the sound (even if bad), with subtitles than the sympathy soundtrack. As my old friends used to tease each other's complaints- What's this? (rubbing two fingers together)? The worlds tiniest violin...  Or, if you need music, something upbeat and funny? Like it's just so ridiculous. Make a movie for people who DON'T agree with you. The people who do agree you needn't worry about. Just my 2c.

It seems only fair to remember that Ralphs is not the only grocery around here refusing to offer plan B, and certainly not the biggest. I've asked at top drug and Rite Aid in Lacey and they are not the least apologetic about not offering it. Ralphs just happens to have a lot of customers who care about its availablity. Filthy Freds kind of offers it, but it sounded a lot like the Thriftway position. I doubt you would find anyone in Lacey or Tumwater offering it.

If Stormans' largest donation was only $100, they did not support Bush. The FEC website is hard to use and many genereal searchs do not work, but I did find the below link works you can adjust the zip and /[page]/ to jump around. It seems like a privacy concern that addresses are published. I notice a couple of large local Repub contributors were Harbor Wholesale Grocery, and Bayview Lumber. Also a lot of auto dealerships. Not like I'm looking for a McCarthy blacklist, but it might be best to spend your money with friends rather than somewhere politically counterproductive.

God Bless the USA? We might qualify for pity, but I think blessing is out of the question.

I know...

...it's a bummer we didn't put a mic on Janet. Next time! They were talking so softly, there was nothing but supermarket noise on the tape. Hence, the music and titles. Silly music was my first thought, too. I'm not sure why I settled on the serious music except that it seemed to add gravitas.

State Law

Rick!

It's probably lucky for you and Janet the sound did not work so well. Was the Ralph's pharmacist aware of your recording this conversation? If so, you were almost certainly in violation of Washington State code on sound recording someone without their consent or knowledge. Many states also have this in their code. Washington's goes back to 1967. And yes, ours applies to established news gathering organizations too.

See:  RCW 9.73.030 Intercepting, recording, or divulging private communication — Consent required — Exceptions (http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=9.73.030)

Any person who violates RCW 9.73.030 is guilty of a gross misdemeanor.

Suggest you carefully consider the implications of this before the "Next time", or maybe have a good lawyer on retainer.

Take care out there!

Thanks for the reminder.

I do generally use an informed consent form. The pharmacist did know he was being taped, so I'm assuming he would have objected if he had an issue with it. I think it falls under this exception:

4) An employee of any regularly published newspaper, magazine, wire service, radio station, or television station acting in the course of bona fide news gathering duties on a full-time or contractual or part-time basis, shall be deemed to have consent to record and divulge communications or conversations otherwise prohibited by this chapter if the consent is expressly given or if the recording or transmitting device is readily apparent or obvious to the speakers. Withdrawal of the consent after the communication has been made shall not prohibit any such employee of a newspaper, magazine, wire service, or radio or television station from divulging the communication or conversation.

um

"An employee of any regularly published newspaper, magazine, wire service, radio station, or television station acting in the course of bona fide news gathering duties on a full-time or contractual or part-time basis"

I wasn't aware of Olyblog employing anyone on a full-time, contractual, or part-time basis.

Citizen journalism...

...is a full-time job.
»

Not that I disagree....

but you may have a hard time proving that in court. Not saying that to argue, I just want everyone to keep safe and out of jail.
»

I think that I'd be able to argue...

...that OlyBlog is involved in bona fide news gathering. The intent of the language about employment is to insure that it is a legitimate news activity.

Rick's right. The law says

Rick's right. The law says that in order to prevent you going out with your camera once to nab some gossip on someone, then claiming that you're a reporter so it's okay. I think OlyBlog's history of covering a variety of topics, and being publicly available (published), would protect us in this case. *all based on what little I know about press law, and subject to change on the further education of me
