Sarah Palin's lack of ability to understand what she reads became apparent this weekend when she managed to thoroughly misunderstand the finding against her in the Troopergate probe. She told some Alaska reporters, via phone, that she is "very much appreciating being cleared of any legal wrongdoing or unethical activity at all." However, the report's first finding stated that Governor Palin "abused her power by violating Section 39.52.119(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act," which is worded as follows:

Oddly, she also claimed that the investigation was a "partisan circus," although the legislative committee who conducted it consists of 6 Republicans and 2 Democrats. If you're in the mood for an Emporor's New Clothes kind of moment, listen to the audio of her interview with Alaska reporters in which she appears completely oblivious not only to the content of the report, but to the actual questions asked by the reporters.

Thad just tipped me off to a site that looks interesting, and I'd like to know what folks think. We could integrate it with the blog, if there is enough interest. Does it seem like something you would use?

The following two movies will be playing this week at OFS: Mama Mia! (Oct. 12-Oct. 17): From OFS: "Bride-to-be Sophie has, unbeknownst to her mother, invited three of her mom's exes to her wedding to find out which one is her father. In this screen adaptation of the smash Broadway musical, of course chaos, merriment, and singing and dancing ensue. This film features an all-star cast, Greek isle settings, and catchy ABBA tunes you won't be able to get out of your head." Battle in Seattle (Oct. 12-Oct. 17): From imdb: "WTO veterans and "This Is What Democracy Looks Like" fans may grumble, but should give this fictionalized version of the 1999 WTO protests a chance -- no, Townsend wasn't there at the time, and yes, the characters he follows can seem at times more symbolic than real, but as Sean Axmaker says in Green Cine, 'I have to hand it to Townsend for not only showing how the protests caught the city by surprise and capturing the chaos within the loose organization of protesters... but also for getting beyond slogans to explain what the WTO was doing and what the protesters stood for, at least to come extent.'" Hola OlyBlog posse- Weird haps this morn with my residential Internet service: So, I was checking out that vid that JT posted and tried to watch it 3 times all the way through on OlyBlog, and the the vid stopped about half-way thru and then >poof< my DSL modem's Internet light went out each time- -I was curious is anybody had the same fail or insight~ I imagine that Qwest is to blame, but I can't figure out why/how... The modem would reset and the DSL light comes on (means the modem is connected to the CO), and the Internet light would go green, and then fail when the vid reached mid-stream... ...now the weirdness increases... I went to YouTube direct and watched the same vid and no prob at all- Curious huh? So, I'm gonna drop the Voice service on my Qwest line and either stick with Qwest as my ISP ($10/mo.) or go back to Zhonka and pay for the sexy Zhonka DNS service of whatever magic it is that Zhonka does... ...heck, I might just switch to Zhonka to support a local business (again)! OR... This may finally be time to get do the homework and setup the next phase of the ENA FreeNet project: Acquire Internet access wholesale through NoaNet and start the wireless ISP in my neighborhood that I have been planning for a while- I really just want a phat pipe to the 'net- -so, for the Web connoisseurs out there, what is the Internet connection of choice?: *Optic (DS-1) *Copper (T-1/Frac T1) *Wireless (802.11/802.16) --I won't consider Comcast, as they restrict the end users (no sharing)--

Steven Pinker and his pursuit of reverse engineering remain humble in his book entitled "How the Mind Works" (1997).
Steven writes: "...it omits a third alternative: that some categories are products of a complex mind designed to mesh with what is in nature." on page 57 in the last sentence of the first paragraph.
Those words by Pinker on page 57 put me at ease as a reader to both understand that his order of events appears to be: stimuli-hardware-interpretation and, that Pinker is not a fundamentalist attempting to answer the wrong questions instead of asking the right questions.
"Replace X better than Y with how X works". Hardware from stimuli. To go from human-interpretation to hardware to stimuli is "reverse engineering" which, is also known as an illposed (unanswerable) physics/engineering question.
Interesting itinerary. The retina displays images of stimuli to the brain for interpretation (in that order) while, Deaf kids devolop the same language patterns of hearing kids. The Chinese say that a baby is already one years (plural) young upon birth.
With warrant Steven implies that the brain is already programmed to form according to the stimuli.
If the Deaf get language without hearing, do the blind get sight without seeing?
More accurately, that begs the question: did the brain originally form knowing what the stimuli would be?
I am looking forwards toward the next chapters in Steven's book to see how he characterizes the line of fit for the equation: stimuli-hardware-interpretation.
