The B&R advocacy center is currently facing a severe shortage of operating and maintenance funds, preventing us from providing services to those in need. Any donations will allow us to continue to give dynamic financial assistance to low- and no-income people experiencing crises.

Donations of any amount are welcome and can be mailed to or dropped off at the Bread & Roses Advocacy Center at 1009 4th Ave E., Olympia, 98506. We are open Monday-Friday 9am-1130am & 1pm-430pm.

Any questions can be directed to 754-4588 or 481-2559.

Well, ya should

Would sure be a convenient way for some folks to help you out. Are their legal reasons not to?

We used to have one.

The trouble was that being a volunteer organization we had nobody who wanted to and/or had the skills to do a lot of the work required to make it worthwhile. All of our staff is focused on serving those in need, and don't have much time for doing lots of fundraising. We SHOULD have one, and hopefully will again soon, along with a website. It might be months until someone on staff could take that on. A volunteer though...

I'm not sure that this is helpful

But I highly suggest a strategic plan with self sustainability programming.  Some fund raising events?  Grants?

It would probably raise more funding than direct ask in crisis.

grant-writing is a long and arduous process

that wouldn't be at all practical for the purposes of finding immediate relief. grants are helpful in the long-term, but they have little ability to reflect short-term fluctuation in demand for services.

perhaps some clarification is needed. this post wasn't an attempt to have olyblog readers shoulder the operating costs of B&R, and it isn't the result of a lack of foresight. it is a call for help so we can continue to provide services during a period of relatively high demand.
