Changes For The Better

Starting this Tuesday, June 24th, The Olympia Caffe Vita will now be open new hours:
Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday--6AM to 10PM
Friday--6AM to 11PM
Saturday--7AM to 11PM
Sunday--7AM to 10PM

The breakdown is thus: Every weekday we open at 6AM. Every weekend day we open at 7AM. And we're open until 10PM unless it's Friday or Saturday when we shut it down at 11PM.

And the reason we're keeping it open later on Friday and Saturday is to bring you *music* on a more regular schedule! Starting a few months ago we began hosting music on First Friday and we have decided to continue forth with this newfound tradition. New art shows will also go up on the first Friday of the month to support downtown Olympia's First Friday event that started in the last year.

We will be featuring a selection of new offerings from the pastry case, including baked goods from Blue Lotus (such as those ridiculously fabulous vegan lavender cupcakes and gluten free Ranger cookies!)!! And more to come...

All these changes reflect our humble attempt to foster downtown Olympia's late night options for the not-necessarily drinking crowd. And also, just for you, so you can say that you live in a town where there is at least one coffee shop open past 8PM on a Saturday-freakin-night.

You might also notice the phrase Farm Direct floating about our store in conversations and coffee descriptions. Curious? Read on...

Caffé Vita sources coffee from growers that we can ensure adhere to the environmental and social standards we believe in. For our Farm Direct coffee, we travel to coffee-producing regions and visit farms, inspecting trees and cupping coffee and verifying employee and environment management. In addition to the diligent practices of individual farms we work with, we are uncompromising about the following criteria:

* The coffee must be exceptional
* The amount the grower or local cooperative receives must exceed Fair Trade prices
* The grower must be committed to healthy environmental practices, such as recycling water, responsible land management, and minimal or no use of herbicides and pesticides
* The grower must be committed to sustainable social practices, such as providing good living conditions, sanitary facilities, fair wages, health services, and education for employees and contribution to community services
* A Caffé Vita representative must visit the farm at least once per harvest season
* All the participants in Farm Direct purchases must be open to transparent disclosure of financial deliveries to the individual farms

Music?

I'm booked steadyon Saturdays at Tower Falls in Centralia, but if you want a night of piano/vocals sometime, I can make a Friday available.

Yes Norm, I play Piano Man if you tip enough.

Best coffee shop in town.

I hope the lines don't get longer. Oh, and Larry, I think they're looking for something a bit more contemporary, the shows I've seen were younger rock bands and not a single Earth, Wind & Fire cover in any of their sets.

Contemporary?

As long as I live, I am contemporary. You little wippersnapper! I think what you mean is, "something more appealing to young adults."

I just realized,

being that I'm now 30 years and 1 day old, I don't think I'm allowed to speak to what young adults like. I've already received correspondences from younger friends stating how much they distrust me now.

You're 30? Congrats - I can

You're 30? Congrats - I can start to take you seriously now. I'll teach you how to shake your fist at those disrespectful kids - it's easy to get the hang of.

You can blow out a candle / But you can't blow out a fire / Once the flames begin to catch / The wind will blow it higher

Cool, that sounds like fun.

Just two days ago I would have been like, "Whatever, POPS!", but now I feel like the youth of America just ain't got no respect for nuthin'. Kids these days!

Settlers of Catan and other...

...board games! Vita is a good place to hang and play games after work, so it sounds as if it will be hopp'n =)

Viva la Vita!

Okay I stole that from the new Coldplay CD, which is awesome by the way, and don't even know if it makes sense, but:

Thanks Vita for doing what you're doing and for jumping on the bandwagon with First Friday!!

This is going to be great!
