As most here know, S6 was banned from Olyblog. There are varied opinions on whether that should have happened or not, even in the docent ranks. The good that has come out of S6 being removed from Olyblog is him creating his own forum/blog. He has some really good ideas, and seems motivated to make them happen. S6 wanted me to post about his new page, and encourage you to come visit. If you decide you want to come to the "dark side", you can get there through this portal. |

As the bombs burst in mid-air...
Submitted by The Original Yoda on Fri, 07/04/2008 - 11:58pm....I can't help but imagine S6 all curled up in his V-berth, his holster beside him, being sent off to dreamland by the gentle rocking of the boat and the still silence of the night continuously and unceasingly punctuated by a plethora of snaps, crackles, pops, bangs and ka-booms.
Sleep well, Security Six, and happy Independence Day.

But I did click on the link and venture over to the site. I actually prefer that type of model for navigation through topics.
The Olympian's website used to have the same thing a few years ago.

Submitted by einmaleins on Sat, 07/05/2008 - 2:57pm.... he used the word OLY, which has been used before and I can't stand.
But the forum setup is very different from Olyblog as it uses a traditional online forum layout, wherein Olyblog uses a blog layout. With that you have two very different animals. Olyblog's mission is to create news, a forum is quite different from that. At heart the idea of community "extension' online is the same - that is true. And the fact that he started it out of frustration is a dangerous road to be on.
But, just don't sound like a church-goer, that complains that someone else opened another church across the street. That's the nature of things and the nature of success.

But, I'm not sure if I'm allowed over there, since I was a docent in favor of him loosing his account over here, he has responded in the negative to a request of mine for an account over at his place. Oh well.
Thanks for the info, I plan on stopping by

Submitted by enpen on Sun, 07/06/2008 - 10:33am.I'm happy to see this start. I really wish he had expended this kind of community building creative energy on OlyBlog while he was here, it would have made my case to the other docents a lot stronger.

Submitted by Guglielmo on Sun, 07/06/2008 - 11:03am.Shoulda made S6 a docent
Submitted by Laurian on Sun, 07/06/2008 - 1:34pm.Nothing co-opts dissent like co-option. S6's absence here is probably more of a loss to him than us. Funny tho' how he writes he wants to"create a community forum that all persons should be able to partcipate (sic) in irregardless (sic) of personal beliefs but shuns Emmett. Oh well. I guess that frees up S6, Ornry and JT to safely indulge in their gun lovin' God fearin' love fest sans 'liberal' opinion.
I will miss S6's writing on Open Carry and the 2nd amendment becasue they were interesting because they were well reasoned. His rationalization for using a cut and paste BOHICA graphic as a tag line was bullshit. I fear now that S6 is unfettered from the influence of reasonable opinion, Olyforum will soon become a freak show comparable to the Olympian's comment section.
We all have agendas which, if well reasoned, we should be proud of. Agendas are what makes all of us interesting friends and foes. Olyblog docents here have agendas that are left leaning and good for that. I'm here at Olyblog because I'm sick and tired of for the fear, hatred and lies of so-called center and right wing bloggers. I am more than willing to take a shot at sloppy leftist thinking but the difference between Left and Right is those on the Left think. Those on the Right, (with very rare exceptions) simply react.
I have defended S6's opinions on several occasions because although I often disgreed with his opinions I knew he was being held to a different standard by our hard working and much maligned docent. In light of nothing more than my own transgressions I know there is a double standard here based on ideology.
Burr and I got pretty damned personal over our disagreements over the Triway proposal. I've written some pretty sarcastic stuff aimed at Oly2012 and Janette Hawkins. Hell, I even took a shot at Chia. So far I've gotten away with my scurrilous attacks w/out the slightest murmur from a docent. (At least here at Olyblog. Sometime I'll share the vitriol Peter Strobe and a few DNA e-mail list members have sent me privately.) The raison de etre for S6's banning was his defending his "what the freak..." remark after he was baited by Mike. I called Janette a "hydrogen filled semi-rigid gas bag." Really, which is the more scurrilous attack? Mine damn it!
This is a diverse, dynamic community that has enough tolerance for an iconoclast like me. (And you Dear Reader) That is Olyblog's strength. I look forward to a series of F2F ( god I hate that expression) meetings to talk about the gulf between our visions and our current reality.
Thanks for reading. Laurian
