We signed up with Kirsop Farms to get a CSA box last year and really enjoyed it. Now that the new CSA season is looming, we're trying to decide whether to stay with Kirsop, which we loved, or branch out and try someplace new. Any recommendations?

Kirsop at einmaleins

Kirsop Farm will be at einmaleins for the upcoming First Friday on April 4th presenting their CSA program and their farm.

So, if you don't know what a CSA (community supported agriculture) program is, swing on by.

If you're undecided on what farm to choose, swing on by.

If you want to meet your local farmer, swing on by.

Oh, if you love food and drink, swing on by, we'll have something special this time.

If you want a CSB...

If you'd like a share of baked goods to go with your veggies, I highly recommend 8 Arms Community Bakery. The food is amazing!

That looks delicious

and dangerous. Thanks for the link.

There's so many good ones...

I have always loved Helsing Junction Farm - their CSA shares are diverse and really yummy.   YOu can get flowers and I think even eggs in your share for a bit extra.  Also, Boistfort Valley Farm is great.   I would highly suggest supporting a farm like these two that were affected by the flood, they are really in need of the support of their community.

The carrots at Kirsop are unbelievable - I've never tasted anything quite like them.  I call them 'carrot crack' cuz you can't do just one...

They both look good

I'm leaning toward Boistfort, but it's going to be a tough decision to make. Thanks for these. I know what you mean about those Kirsop Carrots. They've ruined all other carrots for me.

Salt Creek Farm

I know, I know, it's way the Hell up in Clallam County. But for those OlyBlog readers who live up there or plan to move in that neck of the woods, Salt Creek Farm is worth checking out.

Thanks

I've wanted a guide that tells what fruits and vegetables are in season, so this is really helpful.

CSA recommendations

Common Ground farm is wonderful; they have amazing goat cheese for sale at the farm, which always sells out very quickly. One time, I was picking up my box at Common Ground, and there were a lot of jalapeno peppers that day. I asked one of the farmers how they could be used. She took me into the kitchen, pulled out a cookbook, and wrote out a recipe for pickled jalapenos. I tried it, loved it, and now I'm hooked! Home-pickled jalapenos are easy to make, and taste so much better than the mushy ones you can buy. I am really grateful to Nancy for getting me started on a long, happy pickling career.

I belonged to Rising River as well, and was very satisfied. I have had friends who had a CSA with Pigman's, and they loved it, as well.

Fresh Jalapenos!

You are so right.

They are fresh and crisp and still have a little of that green pepper, summery taste.

donate to Bread & Roses?

I'm following up on an info request from folks in my neighborhood:

Can folks buy a "csa/csb" and then donate that gift to a place like B&R?

I think folks in my neighborhood are looking for a way to support local service orgs & shelters until the Madison garden project takes place, which we hope will be a good place for folks to have a community garden.

Thanks for the info here, I know E & I are really looking at this as an option until we get our garden going =)
