Just heard over the scanner of shots fired from a red small sedan-- possible drive by shooting near Martin Way in Lacey. At least seven 9mm casings found on the ground.

Whose near?

UPDATE: Ashley129 in the comments:

I live about 5 houses down from where the shooting was. I didn't even hear the gun shots. I was watching a movie fairly loud though. We don't really know much. My fiance came home from work at about 11:00 last night and they had our whole street blocked off. When he asked what happened the cops just said there was a drive by shooting and no one was hurt. We have a one year old and his bedroom is facing the street. This has me terrified! Our whole neighboorhood is full of families with small children. The house that was shot at is right next door to a daycare! Of course there is nothing in the Olympian about it today. I plan on calling the LPD to find out more.

crap

Time to ban cars :-p

Seriously what do you want to bet the person who did it is already a felon and prohibited from posessing a gun?

This should be interesting.

Probably...

And if that's the case, he will be off the streets for a good while. That's the point of such laws. They up the ante for the next crime.

ooooh, this is a beat

Just another voice, are you often near a scanner? Because that would be one pretty cool beat for you to cover.

second that motion

Something along the lines of the Lights & Sirens blog out of Tacoma (their Thurston coverage here) would be great for Olympia.

So scary

One thing

Is the cops may be keeping things quiet for a day or so to try and nab a suspect before it blows up in the media.  Or the media could be waiting for more info.  Was it on any TV news either?

Suggest if your neighborhood is becoming a target for gang violence, either ban cars, or get the tools and learn how to protect yourselves.

Gangs go after soft weak targets generally.

Actually, most gang firearm violence

is gang-on-gang violence rather than "soft" targets. They commit other crimes against soft targets, who have good reason to arm themselves I suppose.

True

I wasnt thinking when I forgot that gangs tend to go after each other...

My last ride-along with WSP

we had a call about a youth flashing a handgun at the walmart in Lacey. I was shocked...the trooper I was with was not. Apparently these little fiasco's are becoming more popular in Lacey. I'm glad nobody was hurt.

Hope all is well on that street.

I grew up in a neighborhood plagued by gang and drug violence, and one way we dealt with it was to become closer as a community. Neighborhood watch is a good idea, but also regular block parties and BBQ's where everyone is invited. The best way to protect yourself is to know your neighbor. Don't let fear keep you locked away in your home, take back your neighborhood by refusing to be afraid. Gang members and drug dealers are less likely to operate in your neighborhood if they know they're being watched. The cops take at least ten minutes to get anywhere and longer to certain neighborhoods, in my old neighborhood they would respond to shootings sometimes hours later or even the next day, but your neighbor is always right there.
