I definitely think we should bring back the cobblestone streets to downtown. I spotted the work crew cutting up the pavement to install the new bulb-out along Capitol and shot the cobblestone being exposed for the day. I really really like it. Though it is probably not the best to bike on. It is sort of amazing that the first layer of pavement didn't destroy or distort its cosmetic look.

Neat!
Submitted by security_six on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 9:48pm.I wonder what is underneath the cobblestones. There are places in this town I would love to take a metal detector through. Underneath old streets could be interesting.
This is a non political tag line and cannot be linked up through a twisted thought process to an obscure company making specialty tools.
There might be street car rails
Submitted by Crenshaw Sepulveda on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 10:41pm.Wouldn't it be great if there were street car rails under that concrete?

As much as I enjoy dressing
Submitted by The Fire Inside on Tue, 06/24/2008 - 4:07am.As much as I enjoy dressing casual, I think there's something to be said for how people used to dress.
You get the sense they took themselves seriously.

Submitted by Crenshaw Sepulveda on Tue, 06/24/2008 - 3:29pm....the street car tracks are probably still under the pavement on that stretch of Capitol Way. I'm not certain if they would still be useable but it is kind of nice to dream of a system where driving a car through most of Olympia's neighborhoods would be the last thing you would consider. Walk, bike, street car, bus, and then finally drive a car if you absolutely have to. I think we do need more density downtown, no doubt about it. We need, however, to make certain that the people that will be working in the fancy boutique stores will be able to avail themselves of housing in the very neighborhoods they work in. A car free life should not only be for those with great means, indeed it makes sense for those of the least means. The way things are going in downtown it will only be the wealthy that will be able to part with their cars or enjoy a life that makes driving the last option.
