What is extreme? I mean seriously. Recently, someone accused me of having "left-wing extremist" views. So what are they? What views of mine are extreme?

Is it extreme to want peace and justice? Is it extreme to ask people to be nice to each other, and that people use respectful dialogue to resolve disputes? Is it extreme to advocate for nonviolence?

Is it extreme to ask that people receive fair treatment? Is it extreme to oppose power politics of global corporate domination (at gunpoint)?

Seriously - all I want is a world where people and planet (and animals and plants, rocks and oceans, etc.) are respected and protected for the benefit of future generations. I want a world where people choose love over fear - trust over hostility. I want a world where people look each other in the eye because they enjoy community.

Is that extreme? Is it extreme to ask that public officials serve the public interest? Is it extreme to ask that public officials be held accountable to the rule of law?

Is it extreme to expect that public officials will behave in a manner that is honest, that they will respect the rule of law, and that they will tell us the truth - and also that they will not use their position in public office to serve special and private interests?

Is that extreme? You tell me.

What do you consider to be extreme?

what is extremism...

So with that, you're free to disagree with me. You're also free to add your own opinion, and/or discuss what is extreme, and what extremism is. Also I would be interested to discuss examples of extremism, especially as these examples might play out in the local community / local communities.

Peace, bert

Extremism

Bert, first of all thank you for- "Seriously - all I want is a world where people and planet (and animals and plants, rocks and oceans, etc.) are respected and protected for the benefit of future generations. I want a world where people choose love over fear - trust over hostility. I want a world where people look each other in the eye because they enjoy community."

That goes along way with me and says your heart is in the right place. My ideal world would exist in the world you described. But we both know how much there is to overcome,...nothing short of a divine intervention. I can only hope to see it in our lifetime.

Extremism to me personally, is an overzealous effort to reach positive or negative ends, resulting in or creating sensationalism and shock. The extremism of Olyblog is sickening and I absolutely deplore its organizers. It is falsely represented and operated with the wrong people controlling what should be a neutral forum. It is no different than a political party run a muck.

Everyone has there own extreme methods of reaching common goals and this theory you have of raising support is counterproductive to the common goals we all share. Individuals that exercise extremism often repel the very folks they are trying to befriend.

We can learn to communicate Bert, but there is going to have to be a complete revamping of your vocabulary. When I entered the world of writing in a blog a weeks ago I in no way expected something like this in Olympia.

I gotta head for the beach, hope you enjoy this stretch of good weather Bert.

Overzealous Efforts

Thanks for your criticism, Scott. I hear that you don't like my vocabulary, and that you even consider my efforts to be overzealous. I guess I can understand how you might perceive my approach as such.

Personally, I do not consider my efforts to be overzealous. I know that you disagree with my position that the American government has been hijacked by the interests of complex industrial conglomerations, including those of the media and military. I know that you disagree with me in regard to the projection of Anglo-American (and in general, Western) corporate power upon the global economy.

I do not, however, use those terms in a hyperbolic manner. My representation of the domination of global politics and economics by a few special and vested interests is the product of years' worth of analysis and study.

To allege that global corporate hegemony is real, and that it is harming humanity and the planet, is not rhetoric or hyperbole.

Of course you're entitled to your own opinion, and you're also free to disagree on this matter (or any other.)

I just hope you can understand that my perspective is not based on some imagined or hallucinatory reality. My perspective and understanding of global politics/economics is based on a careful interpretation of history and current affairs.

Again, all I am saying (basically) is that I want a government that represents the true public interest - not the interest of corporate powers. Is that extreme or overzealous?

I hope you enjoy your time at the beach, Scott. Peace to you too.

My brother Bert

Sir, we were talking about extremism not political stance. The beach was fogged in so I maintained a 1 mile distance from it at Washaway.
