What are the special problems facing organic farmers affected by the 2007 flooding?

What are their numbers?

Did the floods affect their certification?

What is the best way to contact these farmers?

If the farm is certified by

If the farm is certified by the WA Dept of Ag, then inspectors are out there, doing visual inspections of the flooded areas. There's some farms that are certified by Oregon Tilth Certified Organic , I am not sure how they are handling it. I know that DOA plans on sampling crops in the spring to see if they've been contaminated. Anything thats in the fields right now can't be sold as either organic or non-organic if they have come in contact with the floodwaters.

As for who has been effected, I know that lots of both organic and nonorganic farmers were devestated, but not sure where to get a list or phone numbers.

There is a benefit for Boistfort Valley Farm (Mike & Heidi Peroni) at the Eastside Club on the 1st of February and the benefit linked to above at the EAgles on the 16-17 of February.

Fundraising for Farmers

Thanks for your info. I just think that facts and figures would help in the pre-event publicity in the fund raising efforts: numbers if not names. Impact assessment fom government sources are two vague and the news reports I have read are to sepecific. What is needed and who should get it are the questions the public wants answered most when it comes to help. I still have no clear idea about the need out there. James F.
