This is one of the fresh benches on the Olympia trail.

This is another fresh bench on the Olympia trail.

That is a shame someone

That is a shame someone would do that. It would be a bigger shame if people just continue to walk past it and do nothing. We have the ability to 1) call the city and let them know, and 2) do the removal ourselves. I hope you didn't just take a picture and keep walking.

I sure hope you didn't just see the picture and criticize.

I can't wait to read the update after you take your own advice.

Hey FRESH

Just as a FYI I have no idea where this trail is other wise I would go and take it off. I do a large amount of removal all over Olympia. We all live here together and we all are responsible for how it works and runs.

love the modern art

I noticed these benches also, and can't help but comment on the "modern art" decorating the second picture...

...tagging is so coo! I wish I had the *talent*to use spray-paint so well~

BTW: This kind of vandalism makes me wanna "fight back", and that just sucks...

It is good that you appalled by this type of attack on your community. You should "fight back" and do something about it. Go and take it off every time you see it. Tagging is only "cool" if people can see it.

The benches are ugly

Useful maybe, but unaesthetic. The politics of graffiti aside, I actually think the tagging on the second one is a visual improvement -- integrates it into the tangled forest environment more.

Oh come on!

LOL

Are you going to freak out every time I express an opinion that runs counter to the norm? Maybe you just need to be exposed to more diverse perspectives... build up your tolerance a little.

Yes

Srsly?

I'm not thrilled with the looks of the benches either, but in no way does the tagging "integrate [the bench] into the tangled forest environment." (I ride this trail almost every day, altho I think I get on after that spot.)

I said "more"...

Maybe I should have said "slightly more"? It's definitely not a big improvement, but it does break up the visual monotony of the tan slats with some dark curly shapes.

For the record, I'm not a fan of all graffiti. If this was a big red swastika or something I'd be outraged too. Or if it defaced a work of public art. But a little paint on a utilitarian bench that wasn't too pretty to start with... I don't think it's hurting anyone.
