About Hobo Radio

Hobo Radio is a weekly program on 106.5 KOWA low power radio in Olympia Washington hosted by Joshua Ratliff. It began in September 2006 as a show dedicated to alternative travel methods including hitchhiking, train-hopping, and alternative fuels.

After the Olympia City Council passed an ordinance banning the act of sitting on the sidewalks, Hobo Radio expanded its format to include homeless advocacy. The anti-sitting ordinance was created to target homeless people as an attempt to lower the number of homeless in Olympia. The homeless in Olympia responded to the ordinance by establishing a "tent city" in downtown Olympia. The tent city was called "Camp Quixote" and has since been moved it's location twice. Hobo Radio has been a supporter of Camp Quixote since its inception and strives to keep up to date on new developments and news.

Hobo Radio is also a music show with a variety of music genres that range from bluegrass and punk rock to hip-hop and reggae. The music all has a similar theme of freedom and resistance of oppression. Every so often, Hobo Radio also features live music by local and traveling street performers.

Hobo Radio is also about hobos and features hobo history, music, and guests.
