12:00 MIDNIGHT: My source left the scene a few minutes ago, and according to the NewsFlash blog as of 11:50, residual and ongoing rioting is occurring. Because that source has retired, too, I believe there will be no more updates tonight.

11:20 Strykers went out the other gate by Swantown (i.e., not the usual, main gate); police lined up in front of people , but some crowd chased the Strykers..... Police shooting steamballs at crowd and also flashbangs.... Crowd set up roadblock at 4th and Plum with dumpsters....Strykers went up 4th Ave and pushed through barricade and got out.....Crowd now milling around by Old School.

11:08 p.m. Police put on their gas masks.

10:15 p.m. Orderly arrests made at this point.

9:35 A source just called me and told me there are 50 women sitting in the street; they have been warned 3 times to remove themselves and it appears the police are now about to take action with pepper spray -

and see News Flash from the Port....

Rob Richards is reporting on the same actions, I just now see

Women...

Do women acting as equals in this protest deserve special treatment, or was that just hyperbole on your part? Putting yourself deliberately in harms way ensures you may get harmed, regardless of plumbing.
»

Neither hyperbole nor a statement about special treatment...

just a fact. If it had been men or teddy bears, I would have reported "men" or "teddy bears". Don't you have better things to do than search for hidden meanings?
»

Then I'm sorry....

It seems a lot of people look for a lot of hidden meanings. It did seem a bit odd to single out women in the group.

I wonder a protesting teddy bear looks like... lol

»

Thanks for saying that

...looks like we can also agree that teddy bears would look funny in that position (actually, in lots of positions)
»

Echoing Rob's report that orderly arrests have been made

and there was no violent clashing, thankfully.
»

Good news

Thanks for the update. I wonder if "maybe" someone read the blog?
»

If what you meant, Norm, was did I read Rob's blog,

...yes. I repeated part of what he said, partly because I didn't want my blog title to appear melodramatic when no violent clash actually happened, and partly because it doesn't hurt to have good news (well, better than original scenario) and thankful reactions appear twice.
»

No no

I didn't realize it sounded that way. I'm wondering if an OPD rep managed to read the blog, and if so, if that changed their approach tonight vs Sundays approach. Didn't mean to sound snarky.
»

I didn't think you sounded snarky in the first place

...I was just pulling a "me-me-me". Snarky is a good word, though.
»

Things aren't looking so good at the Port;

according to more than one source, police have put on their gas masks.
»

If they did use tear gas...

I heard the canisters go off at 11:01pm. I thought it might have been gun fire but it wasn't sharp enough, more of a couple dull but loud thuds. Anybody else downtown hear it?
»

Yes I thought maybe it was a

Yes I thought maybe it was a concussion grenade. It might have been a cannister going off, but I only heard one, usually they use several of those.
»

Maybe I heard an echo

but it definitly sounded like two rapid detonations, I was outside at the time.
»

UPDATE: Strykers went out the other gate, by Swantown....

Cops lined up in front of people , but crowd chased the Strykers..... Police shooting steamballs at crowd and also flashbangs.... Crowd set up roadblock at 4th and Plum with dumpsters....Strykers went up 4th Ave instead and pushed through barricade and got out.....

Crowd now milling around by Old School.

Maybe they need a Peace.

I think Norm was commenting

I think Norm was commenting that maybe the police read OlyBlog and decided to just arrest as opposed to reacting the way they have.
»

That makes much better sense, Rob...

although now I have been exposed as a narcissist. Yeah, you really have to wonder if the police read the blog...maybe saw Rick's YouTube videos etc.
»

Parting comment of the night...

...so much for "good news." Olympia, I hope you don't look like a ghetto come morning.
»

Does anyone have an update on the violence after midnight?

i.e., car windows being smashed, etc. after the Stryker vehicles broke through and left town. I haven't had a lot of time to look through all reports, but I haven't heard anything on this latest aspect, and I don't see anything in other news sources. Hopefully it didn't amount to much...

YARAARRAAGGHHH!!!!

*OUCH* My brain hurts now, and I think I am scarred for life!
»

I use the flat as opposed to expanded list,

so I am just going to guess that you are referring to the teddy bears and not the lack of violent clashing :)
»

I meant to say "flat as opposed to threaded"

listings.
»

I recommend the threaded

I recommend the threaded list, I don't know how one would keep track of who is responding to what otherwise.
»

I know I can use the threaded list, but

I like the added brain exercise from trying to figure it out from the flat list, and sometimes it's just fun to guess.
»

Yeah, the bears... :-)

Security through Obscurity is Not Security

Please

Just ignore him.

Rob, that was my next step, good idea

[rolling eyeballs once and slowly moving away now]
