Met a guy in Bayview who was trying to buy coffee and didn't really have much money. He had a full backpack with a bedroll rolled up on top, and a greyhound baggage tag on the pack. I am a sucker for helping travelers, so I bought him a cup of coffee. The resulting conversation was worth the cost of a cuppa. I'll call him C. C came from the east coast and is traveling as his whims and The Lord tell him. Heading towards Seattle, I tipped him off that he can take transit there, which will save him on Greyhound fare. C was glad to learn this. I wrote down the info to get him to Seattle by transit, as well as some directions to a hostel in downtown Seattle. While talking, I learned C wanted to get a boat ride to Japan. I told him the best way to get a boat ride to distant shores is to make yourself useful as a deckhand. Gave him some tips on getting deckhand and sailing experience and where to find such wonderful positions and winch cranker and deck monkey :-) (Just think, some people WANT to have some guy hollering at them while doing heavy work during a race... :-) Fun conversation, well worth $2. Drank too much coffee myself today and got into an argument with a friend, so started feeling pretty low. This of course happens while coming down of the coffee buzz. Nearly scared Gug out of the BroHo tonight while still amped up having a goofy shouting match with Meta... Yargh. I gotta find a better pick me up than coffee. Usually drink tea, but allergies were whupping me so hard today I needed a massive jolt to get me going. Couldn't get any yerba matte, so settld for coffee and oh am I paying for it now! :-) Wish I had brought my camera today though, I could have gotten some good pics of protesters on the bridge around noon. They left around 12:30, although some were making jerks of themselves, leaning far over the sidewalk waving at cars... Anyway I'm rambling. Sorry wanted to tell C's story and didn't do it justice and needed to ramble a bit... Urgh.

It's all good S6.
Submitted by Guglielmo on Thu, 03/20/2008 - 10:48am.I was only momentarily stunned by your and Meta's immitations of a troop of howler monkeys on crank. It was as if I'd walked in on these too.
You all settled down when you noticed my flight or fight (emphasis on the flight) response.
Just curious: Were you

Submitted by security_six on Thu, 03/20/2008 - 4:56pm.I was in the bar. It is illegal to carry a loaded handgun in a bar.
The answer is no I wasn't carrying. Why would it matter? The "yelling" was a hyped up "YES, YES, YES" to a question or statement Meta posed. I can't recall which. We all laughed. The look on Gug's face was priceless :-)

Submitted by enpen on Fri, 03/28/2008 - 9:04am.NPR ran a story this morning about a Brooklyn social worker who was nice to his mugger. I thought it was interesting, and I was going to post in on your thread about aggressive panhandling, but this thread seems to be more apropos.

Yeah, I thought that was a cool story too.

Submitted by security_six on Fri, 03/28/2008 - 11:22am.I always act on the principle if someone just wants my money I would give it to them. Any other agressive movements, well...
Not sure I would go so far as to make nice with the guy though. More likely to call the cops with a description. Maybe a valuable lesson.
