Veterans Panel on the Perils of Militarism

Friday-November 9th, 2007 7pm
Olympia Community Center
222 Columbia St. NW
Olympia, WA

In recognition of Armistice Day (Veterans Day) the Olympia Movement for Justice and Peace is sponsoring a panel discussion on militarism's expression and effects in our community and globally. A panel of local veterans, including from the current Iraq war, the Vietnam War, and the first Gulf War (1991) will specifically address the attempts to militarize community events such as Lakefair and discuss why such moves and militarism in general are dangerous and should be resisted, and what the alternatives could be.

Attached if a flyer for the event that you can print and copy if you wish to help to publicize this work. Also below is background material and links to several sources on this work that show the danger and divisiveness of militarization of the Port of Olympia. It also show that this is not an action directed at the military personnel per se but against the militarization of our daily lives and especially using Olympia as a backdrop for the current war.
