Creating hyperlocal content can be difficult sometimes. I was wondering if folks would like to toss out some ideas for local stories. Anything goes with brainstorming. Be as wacky as you want. Here's a couple to get things started... 1. Inventory of garbage in Capitol Lake. Maybe updated monthly, or something. (You see a lot of weird stuff in there, at times) 2. An artesian well-watch. Keep track of inspections, saftey concerns etc. (What's up with the well at the old DOT location, next to the IT station?) Don't be afraid to brainstorm. No one should be critical of any one else's ideas. Let's be creative and see what we come up with.

Crime in Olympia
Take a look at recent reports by the OPD and tell us what you think. The source is the daily summaries by OPD. I imagine this could be done at most weekly.
Watch (and edit maybe) the Oly city council meetings
Much more boring to me than reading the city council packets is actually watching the city council meetings. Though, they post movie files here for your enjoyment. And, if you're very tech savy, you can find out how to download the massive files and do some video editing and uploading for our enjoyment.
City of Tumwater Council
Similar to what I do with "This week in Olympia City Council," just for Tumwater. Ideally, you'd live in Tumwater and have some knowledge of local events and players. Tumwater posts its city council material here and you could do this weekly.
General government board meetings
The Thurston Regional Planning Council often posts the agendas and meeting packets of various county wide and specialty government groups, like the Capitol Lake Adaptive Management Plan group. You could regularly check TRPC's meeting webpage and tell us what is coming up and if anything sounds interesting.
Olympia School District
Same as the city of Olympia beat, just the board agendas and packets are here. I wish I could add Tumwater and NT to this list, but they don't post their packets online.
This isn't by any means a complete list. But, I hope to expand on these in the next few weeks with a few more details.

Submitted by enpen on Thu, 02/28/2008 - 9:07am.Follow the Oly Rollers (this is when it would be particularly nice if we had press passes).
Run some local contests: coolest yard, best mailbox, impressive beard(s), unique styles, hardiest breakfast joint, best open mic night, etc. Then we could get some of those window laminates made up for the winners with an OlyBlog logo on it.
Come up with some local oriented question and then do a reporter on the street bit where you interview random folks in downtown Olympia.
Follow up on Olympian articles by calling some of the named sources or getting in touch with people/businesses you think were unfairly represented in the reporting.
There's a lot out there that can be done. That's kind of the beauty of this experiment, we're mostly limited by our imaginations.
