Logged Lot

It's really weird to bike past the woods one day and the next see a big empty lot with a bunch of felled logs. Yes, I know that where my house stands there was once trees, but it's still pretty dramatic.

The location is on Division, south of Walnut. Anyone know what's going in? Probably a new housing development.

Public Notice sign

The public notice sign has been up for several months-- conveniently stuck wayyy down dead-end Walnut Street.

The sign indicates a 16-lot sub division. I can't understand why they just didn't leave the trees up against Division street because I KNOW they are just going to put up a freaking fence facing Division. Which will be yet another missed opportunity for a street-faced home, without the snout of a garage door, so the big a** garage door can be in the back of the home, along a nice little alleyway.

Whew.

Must not face the street

Other people are there! Perhaps so many people are so used to working in cubicles that they want to live in such an arrangement as well.

No Doubt

that fence will become the new canvas for graffiti too since the previous canvas on the west side was removed. (Burnell's fence on Kaiser)

Someone should paint a rainbow on it.

bamboo as fence...

...or go the urban garden route and grow a "corn fence" each year =)

Save your money, costs are only gonna go up!

Tricky stuff, that bamboo. It's an escape artist.

But I like the idea of a living fence...perhaps with some landscaping to collect and slow down the stormwater runoff the new developemnt will create. It's hard to spray paint a plant. And it would look a hell of a lot better than a fence.

Clear Cut

It's good to see development,

in slow economic times.

Actually there is a fair amount to come on the Westside.

Interesting though, isn't it?

The city just spent thousands of dollars on '1000 Trees in 1 Day', yet they allow a developer to clear cut an entire piece of land. I am all for development, so long as it is friendly to the surrounding environment that respects walkability and encourages less dependence on cars. And development that doesn't encourage big flippin' fences. And development that doesn't look gross. And developments without garages! My god, the garages!!!
