Some of us are still exploring the possibility of daylighting Moxlie Creek. During our conversations a number of resources have come to light. I thought I'd list them here so people could find them all in one place.

The Salmon Underneath the

The Salmon Underneath the City

What are they doing down there but unsettling me,
swimming through that seamless dark:
passing into the culvert and under the boat shop,
under the Cadillac dealership with its ghost fins.
Under the backyard, under the parking lot
where milk trucks are bedded down with dogs; at night
electricity floods the wires above the chainlink.
And sometimes I study the garden's broken dirt
to detect the groundswell of their passage.
Or I walk out to the cedars where the culvert
feeds them back to Moxlie Creek. But so far,
nothing. Except one I saw leap
from the water in a perfect, frizzled crescent,
there where the stub of silver pipe ungutters
in the bay. The guy who'd hooked it
showed me the telltale black gums in its mouth,
after I'd watched him palm a rock and bring it down
hard on the skull, watched the fish relinquish
then sigh all its living out. That was weeks ago
and ever since I've listened for the wilderness
they make of their compulsion, of their one idea:
Against. Under the milk yard, where the dogs' chops
quiver, and the wires sing with what moves through
and makes them full (on rainy nights,
even the hardware glistens). And sometimes I find myself
stalled under a street lamp, snagged by the curb
like a yellow leaf. Crouched there to look
where a storm grate opens over these dark waters.

Hey folks,

I'm sorry I missed the meeting, I needed to sit at home and relax last night. Any updates?
»

Yeah, we voted you on to the OFS board

Seems there are many different ways to do so. I'll catch you up later. In otherwords, not much happened. As you can see, I am spending a little time digging up and organizing resources and other info. If you come across anything, let me know and I'll add it to the post. By the way, the poet Lucia Perillo is a local.

i know of her

see you tonight?
»

I'll be out...

Damn the culverts, full stream ahead!

Check out the new article

in the Water Quality... section.

So what did I miss?

Sorry I couldn't make it, I didn't get off of work until 7:30. Anything amazing happen?
»

What's the latest

on Moxlie daylight?
»

yeah, what is the latest?

Is it time to start an awareness campaign? I have been talking to private donors about taking up a collection for this project- what is new? got a website to this project collaborate on?
»

Awareness campaign

It is definitely time to start an awareness campaign. Let's schedule another meeting and create a blog on blogspot for starters.

We could get a paypal donation site set up if we can get state non-profit status and elect a board. I am involved with TerraCommons and I think that group would be interested in this project as well. Before we go to the city, the affinity group that we have now needs to turn into a strong coalition with letters of support from individuals and organizations who are supportive.

Is tomorrow night at the Brotherhood still good for people?

»

I would probably go Wed. night

if it's 7:30 ish.
»

Let's

talk about opportunities for collaboration, information sharing, research, website, etc. Yes. I'll be waiting out on the patio at 7:00 again tonight looking for moral support.

Chad360, I'd like to hear about the kind of responses you've received from you prospects and what vision you've been describing. If I don't see you this evening, let's set up something. Perhaps we need a better location and time.

Another Olyblogger (flyfreeasabird) said he's been involved with a group with similar interests. Haven't connected with them yet, but would like to if they're interested.

»

I'm sick

so probably won't be out tonight. Flyfreeasabird is involved with TerraCommons, a group that I'm getting to know right now, and as I mentioned would probably be interested.

Let's just keep at it, and post anything we learn or decide here until we figure out a better format. Maybe the best way to keep this process open and community driven is to pass everything through the blog. blah blah blah

Sounds good

keep communicating.

How was the .....

How was the meeting? Next week my schedule should be somewhat normal so I should be there. I talked about the project to my new boss (Agua Tierra). We didn't have time for a real discussion about it, but he expressed a interest, and said he'd be down to come to a meeting. He might have some good info, and some good contacts that he would share with us.
»

sounds great

let's plan on another meeting next Wednesday then.
»

In chatting last night,

it does seem that perhaps another location would be more...well, at least,...warm.

questions

Hi, I am new to this site, but was encouraged to join when I read your threads on the daylighting of Indian/Moxlie Creek. I am currently a student at Evergreen and have been studying and monitoring the lower reaches of the creek(s). I am curious if you have had any further developments, and if your group is still meeting? If so I would be interested in attending and/or contributing what I can. Keep up the good work, and damn the (fish unfriendly)culverts..full stream ahead.
»

Hello and welcome

The group hasn't been meeting but I think it should start again, I'd be willing to be a part of it, and having a TESC connection would be useful as a great resource for information and volunteers.

meeting
