Reminder: The Washington State ban on holding a cell phone to your ear while driving takes effect on Tuesday July 1. It's a secondary law (so you can't be pulled over unless you're doing something else dumb). The tickets can go as high as $124.

You can read the law,

here.

Bah!  They did that when

Bah!  They did that when they passed the seat belt law, the Governor, the State Patrol, *everyone* assured us that they would not use this as an excuse to pull us over, only "secondary" infractions they all said.  They they changes their mind, changed the law, and raised the fine.  let's see how long this one lasts, especially as law enforcement have an exemption, feh!

Anyone for greasing the slope?

Humbug.

I say good!

As a driver and a pedestrian, I say, "Good deal!" Theunabonger compares this to the seatbelt law, but this law protects those around the irresponsible drivers. I wish it was a primary offense, slippery slope or not.

How is this working for everyone?

If I'm not mistaken, I believe McCleary was the first municipality to cite a driver for failing to wear a seatbelt once that law went into effect a few years back.  I'm still seeing lots of people of using cellphones behind the wheel.  Have any tickets been issued locally?
