May 8 2008 - 7:30pm May 8 2008 - 9:30pm Dr. Norman Finkelstein is a renowned scholar and author of several books, most recently Beyond Chutzpah: On the Misuse of Anti-Semitism and the Abuse of History. The son of holocaust survivors, Dr. Finkelstein has thoroughly and famously debunked cherished myths and pseudo-scholarship around the Palestine–Israel conflict and holocaust studies. His tireless efforts for truth and justice have made him the target of an attack campaign spearheaded by Alan Dershowitz. “[Beyond Chutzpah] is in fact the best compendium that now exists of human rights violations in Israel and the blocking of diplomacy by Israel and the United States...[a] very careful scholarly book, as all of [Prof. Finkelstein’s] work is. Submitted by Robert Whitlock on Sun, 05/04/2008 - 11:46pm.But that sure was some high-powered hell-fire and brimstone damn or be damned rhetoric!
I can't say that I agree. I think a nonviolent solution is possible. But it will take a civil resistance that is yet to manifest in either the USA, or Israel, or anywhere in the Middle East.
he knows his stuff

Submitted by Robert Whitlock on Thu, 05/08/2008 - 1:26pm.I think the above video may have had a tendency to misrepresent some of Finkelstein's ideas, or to at least take them out of context.
Are you going?
unfortunately
Submitted by enpen on Thu, 05/08/2008 - 10:13pm.Of all nights tonight was a bad night for me as I'm going out of town tomorrow so a quiet family night in was on the menu. In my world of seeing shows and speakers my timing often seems to be...off.
Any particular reason you think the video doesn't represent his ideas or takes them out of context? While its mere nine minutes cannot hope to capture the amount of knowledge he has concerning Middle East history and politics I certainly didn't find anything out of line with everything of his I've read, listened to and seen.
If you get a chance you should start a thread for people to post their reactions to his talk on OlyBlog. I'm jealous.
