Had a nice lunch with JT today and we reached the conclusion that not everyone likes shooting in cold weather, and that it would be neat if the gunners on olyblog wanted to get together as a group and have a shoot.  Seems there is a couple of months to plan and organize this well enough to have it go off smoothly.

I for one would also invite anyone who wanted to show up to do so just to look at guns, ask questions or fire off a few rounds.  My guess is there will be plenty of guns and ammo to go around.  Maybe make a picnic outing out of it.  Heck one could combine a shoot and wild food foraging mission.

Anyway I know there will be some interest, and some "shut up and quit talking about this here already"

BTW, if anyone needs spinal realignment, I can offer the service of my Mosin Nagant M38 carbine for that purpose :-)

I'm game.

I'll have my mini-14 by then. What's the venue...then quary in Capitol Forest.
»

Dunno the venue

Hopefully we can get it hashed out, and a time.  I thought by throwing it out now, a nice outing could be made.  I work saturday and sundays though, but can usually tweak my schedule.

I'm going through a soviet weapons kick so who knows what I will show up with.  At least my mosin nagant and an SKS.  Hopefully I will have a TT33 Tokarev pistol and maybe an AK...

I have my 10/22 and it is slowly getting tricked out.  Folding stock, 25 round mags, etc...  Might get a laser sight.  But I digress.

Quarry sounds good for the moment.  Shoot for sometime in March maybe?

I must be a fair weather

I must be a fair weather shooter, because I can't imagine wanting to do it right now. Anything done outdoors in Jan. better involve a lot of strenuous physical activity IMO. This sounds like it would be fun. Will stay tuned for more details.

We have enough trouble getting spring here

without you guys threatening to shoot it.

If I'm not busy, I'll buy designated ammo if someone will share weapons.

»

I'll

be happy to share my weapons.  Figure out what I'll bring and what will be needed as things progress.  At the very least I will bring my Ruger 10/22 in .22lr, my Ruger P89 in 9mm and one or more mosin nagant rifles in 7.62x54r.

Yes,

it was a nice lunch and S6 is a nice guy. I wonder why OPD just can't see that? ;-)

I'm most certainly the wuss that doesn't like the cold. I'm a 90 degree kind of guy. Anyway, with some planning we can have some fun and those of you out there in Olyblog land that have been in the closet about your desires to try shooting a gun, this would be a good time. We can be sure to have a variety of guns there, some with little or no recoil to things like the .505 Gibbs below, which is a monster.

The gravel pit would be ok.  But unless we wanted to shoot more than 200 yards, I think the Evergreen Gun Club might be better. We could shoot pistols, rifles and shotguns. There is trapshooting and skeet ranges as well as 2 rifle ranges, one at 100 yard, and one at 200 yards. Also we can keep things more controlled and safer at the gun club.

We can figure out the particulars later.

Also we can keep things more

Sounds like a good plan to me. We've kicked this around the broho a few times, with a handful of bloggers present, and everyone seemed to be interested. A little bit of classroom (ala hunters safety) education would be a good idea to start. Make it apparent that nobody has to shoot, and nobody will give them a bad time if they choose not to. Keep everything structured and obvious. Bring lots of video equipment. I think it would be a fun outing.

Shooting in the cold

Yesterday and today I'm at an M16/M4 range. Yesterday was actually a pretty nice day but right now it's starting to snow, so it may be interesting.

It's actually not bad (we qualify in prone supported and unsupported with pop-up targets between 25m and 300m) when you have all of your "snivel gear."

Wearing a full-face ski mask with only your eyes showing looks pretty sweet, too (although you look like a Storm Trooper).
