Have a problem neighbor this week who is setting off fireworks at all hours while your trying to put your little one down? Maybe they'll respond to the the Olympia Muni Code:

The city restricts the discharge of consumer fireworks within the city each year to July 3 and July 4 only. Time of discharge allowed on said dates shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

The Olympia PD has a non-emergency line (704-2740) for such situations as well. Happy 4th of July week everyone.

Also, here's an annotated text of the Declaration of Independence to really celebrate up right.

Wow, fireworks are SO cool! >sarcasm<

(awesome comment wilson, so glad you could take time to post)

Emmett is not a blowhard, so I guess you are such good friends that it is cool/funny to drop that kind of handle on him on OlyBlog (I wished I had more friends as cool as wilson >sigh< )

sheesh

Don't get so wound up, maybe

Don't get so wound up, maybe if you lit off a Roman Candle it would calm your nerves.

I'd light-up...

...something alot more tasty than a Roman Candle if I was wound-up enuf that I'd need to calm my nerves =)

you're kidding, right?

fireworks at 2 am on July 2 = cool?

It may be that this is the holiday for "celebrating the birth of your country by blowing a small piece of it up", but there's gotta be limits. The 4th was pretty much permanently ruined for me the year the fireworks started about 10 am and went fairly solidly until 4 or 5 the next morning. I had to get up at 6 to go to work.

PS: it's "pantywaist" not "panty waste".

look bub

Good thing you moved out of the hood, because you might have found yourself facing down the business end of a garden hose at 11:05 p.m. July 4.

Fireworks: semi-legal mayhem

Come on kids it's time to grow up and put an end to this lethal insanity. Your pets will thank you. Your neighbors will thank you. Your firefighters, police and trauma center staff will thank you. I'll thank you.

Perhaps designating a location for those who can't resist blowing sh*t up would be a compromise. How about on the Rez that sell the stuff?

gravel pit

We used to "fireworks-party" in the UFO gravel pit on the way to Tenino, and we'd make our own fireworks...

...gotta love chemistry =)

Helping local Native

Helping local Native American's make a buck is the least I can do to thank them for letting me play at the Craps Table where I rarely walk away with less than I started.

Not only that, but when I'm watching the Skokomish Valley explode from my folk's backyard on Independence Day, it helps when taking a moment to reflect on those who think they are doing the right thing while volunteering in the real warzones.

Red meat is NOT bad for you. Now blue-green meat, THAT'S bad for you!

My gosh

Some of you folks need to lighten up a bit. I see firework burns every year, I wouldn't go so far as to tell people not to have them anymore though. Some of my best memories growing up were on the 4th. The local ordinance doesn't seem too bad though.

If you have pets, lock them up.....OH and if your neighbor is shooting a gun into the air (like was posted last year) call the darn cops! Totally not acceptable behavior =)

That was New Years Eve...

...when my neighbor shot a machine gun.

lightening up

I've always liked fireworks, until I had children. Infants and explosions just do not mix well. For the rest of their lives, they will enjoy fireworks, but those early years are terrible. I could not have appreciated the severity of this before I had kids, and I will probably forget in a few years, but when your children are terrified, it's a long, long "holiday."

on Nationalism

Re: "birth of country", etc...

I'd wager that if folks put as much effort into our democracy as they do "busting-loose" on "da 4th", we'd all be better off...

...I (for one) do like fireworks shows done by pros, but could care less about nationalist celebrations.

To me, "the Fourth" is just another opportunity to hang-out in the community and enjoy the company of my neighbors (I'll jump at any chance to do that), avoid the daily grind, and r-e-l-a-x...

...but I gotta agree with some folks here; after a while and way late at night, I get really burnt-out on the whole noise issue, and this especially irritates if folks don't pickup afterward.

As does...
