Please plan on joining us! The more, the merrier! I believe this is the 30th year for the Oly Toy Run (somebody correct me if I'm wrong!)

If you're not a rider like us, you can still bring a toy or some spare cash to the South Sound Center and then go cheer us on while watching the parade from the sidewalks!

Olympia Toy Run Overview

The Olympia Toy Run brings motorcyclists together for a very worthy purpose: the joy of a child receiving a gift at Christmas. All the toys and money are donated to The Salvation Army for distribution to needy kids through its Toy n' Joy Shop. Strapped to bikes four abreast in row after row are lots and lots of brand new children's toys. Gleaming bikes sport different names and badges and colors and their riders range from all-season diehards to weekend enthusiasts. For this day, we are one sister/brotherhood of riders thinking of the smiles our toys will bring to kids' faces.

The roaring thrum of thousands of motorcycle engines fills the crisp December air. But this is not a day just for motorcyclists as tens of thousands of spectators line the parade route, excitedly waving, calling and whistling to the riders. Both directions of the street are closed to all but motorcyclists, yet drivers on side streets honk and wave. Though riders come from all over to participate in this event, it's a day to be proud of Olympia, the fellowship that brings us together and the goal we accomplish. It's thrilling, breathtaking, moving...and downright fun.

We hope you'll join us in helping bring smiles to children's faces at Christmas. In the meantime, we wish you safe and happy motoring!

This is a fabulous event....

but doesn't it block traffic?

It's great that at times, we can agree that an inconvenience is worthwhile.

Keep on bikin' bikers.

I remember...

There was an event called for at Sylvester Park last year. It happened right in the middle of the Toy Run. A lot of folks stopped, watched the toy run (hard to think, it was that loud) instead of having the event as scheduled. Then when the run was nearly over, it happened. A toy freed itself, shattering on the pavement. Bike after bike after bike smashed the toy to bits. We waited until a lull in the traffic (They were all up at the Capitol by this point) and we swooped in, cleaned up the plasticy shatterings, and dumped them back into the box they had been in before (the box was actually quite well preserved). We set the box down by the bus shelter for a moment - I swear we were not distracted even five minutes - and the toy fairy (or maybe Sandy Claws) snatched the bits off to where the heck ever.

Then we drank some Odwalla juices we had dumpstered the night before and ate bagels. And we elected Stalin most beautiful male revolooshun-nary, and I ate one of his roses (he got a bouquet). It was a fab time. Oh, and he kissed me. How sweet. I still remember the stubble burn, which lasted for a week. The Olympia Chapter of the Eugene Man-archists elected Trotsky their Prezident for life, and then Stalin killed him and took over. Or maybe I misremember that. The Odwalla was probably off. Fnord.

(None of the foregoing should be believed unless you are drinking)
