If you haven't read this article, I suggest you click and have a good laugh. It's about Capital Lakefair revoking the title of one princess and the aftermath the decision has brought.

[Jessica Pacheco] showed printouts of Lakefair queen Maria Anne Noonan's page at myspace.com. The printouts show Noonan with a nose piercing in one photo and holding what appears to be a rifle in another while dressed in her Lakefair gown. On another page, Noonan apparently wrote, "I am better then you." Pacheco said that if her alleged violations get her kicked off the royal court, Noonan should get kicked off, too.

On the right hand side The Olympian has links to .pdf files with titles such as "Read the termination and scholarship reinstatement letters sent by the Capital Lakefair committee to the Pacheco family" and "View print-outs of Lakefair queen Marie Anna Noonan's MySpace page, as provided by the Pacheco family."

The comments are the best part, though. I was literally laughing at my computer.

"This is news? I wouldn't be surprized [sic] if the Daily Zero started their own reality show. They could call it 'The Search for Real Reporters and Editors.'"

"This is a serious issue for all of us in the community and let me assure you that Officer Trevor is on the case, and he will not rest until justice has been served. That is all."

"No wonder kids can't learn in school. Reading these posts make me realize that sending your kid to a local high school is like sending them to the vultures."

The Lakefair queen receives a $3,000 scholarship, so we're not talking about chump-change (I'm not quite sure if either of them are the queen. I'm guessing by the article that they're simply on the court and get the $1,500 scholarship, which is still nothing to scoff at). So to some people, this would be a pretty significant chain of events. I just couldn't believe this was in The Olympian. Is it really that important to a large audience? At least bury it in the South Sound section (I'm not quite sure where it appeared but people in the comment section are saying it was on the front page).

At the end of the day, I think it's really funny more than anything. From people printing MySpace pages out as "evidence" to the story appearing in the local newspaper, it makes me want to watch either Election or American Psycho.

And since I know people from The Olympian read some of these threads, don't take this as an attack. If I want to read serious fare I can open The Economist (which has its own brand of dark humor, especially in photo captions and story sub-headlines). I just thought this story was the champion of "Only in Mayberry, I mean, Olympia".

Stop the Presses! I misplaced my birthday Gift Certificate for the Tea Lady! After I'm finished calling 911 I'll speak to reporters.
