We're in Billings, Montana.  The drive, thus far, has been steady.  I keep thinking of this future life in Olympia, and long to meet my partner and baby at the SeaTac.  We're covering more distance than I expected and should easily get into Eastern Washington by this evening.  I have no idea where we'll stop.

And now for a little outside perspective:

The front page story for today's Billings Gazette is "Firefighters make gains" and covers the 159,000+ acre fire burning on nearby Derby Mountain.  The smoke filled sky filtered our sunset last night into flashes of purples and reds...it never ceases to amaze me how visually stunning air pollution makes sunsets.

The National Weather Service issued a warning Friday that conditions are perfect for a fire in Western Washington. That came a day after firefighters responded to several brush fires in the area - including one 8-acre fire in Lacey that came within 20 feet of eight homes.
