This thread is for people to say nice things about my friend Pete Bohmer.

No negative Pete Bohmer comments are allowed.

I'll start:

Pete is a kind, compassionate, thoughtful individual that loves his family, his community, and his world. He reaches out to help those with the least among us, and to educate those with the most among us. He is passionate about resistance to the current wars, and to oppressive economic systems the world over.

Certainly Pete can say things from time to time that people don't like, but oh well, it doesn't make him a bad person. It doesn't mean he's turning the adults that he teaches into satan worshipers, or American haters. He's teaching people to think outside of societal norms, and that makes the world a better place.

It's too bad that he has to hear so many terrible things said about himself.

It's regrettable that only certain things get attention...

...because Pete puts a lot of time and energy into organizing events, speakers, and activities that don't get a lot of attention. Since I've been collating event announcements for Works In Progress, there's hardly a month that goes by that Pete doesn't send me an announcement about an event he's put a lot of work into organizing. It really annoys me that he does all that unrecognized work, then some loudmouth on TV comes along and makes a big brouhaha about one statement of Pete's, and that's all that comes to most people's attention. I have seen some very interesting speakers that Pete has brought to Olympia, and I really his appreciate his hard work in creating those opportunities for our community.

Yes

He worked hard during our last public outbreak of neo-nazis. He is an inspiration.

(Good idea Rob, thank you)

I am always happy to bump into Peter around town.

He exudes a playfulness and joy for life along with all that political fervor.  Students are lucky to have a guy like this for a prof.

And TESC is a great liberal arts college.

I never had him as a

I never had him as a professor- I know him through our work on some projects that are very important to me. That really speaks to his level of involvement in this community, that I know him not from my attendance at Evergreen but through his dedication to social justice. His contributions to those projects have been both valuable and very respectful of student leadership.

I hate to see people taking his comments out of context, because it seems to me that his goal is to make sure that individual students aren't singled out for excessive punishment based on people's anger at the entire group. I'm glad to know that Peter has in mind the best interests of the students and the community when he says that this should be handled through restorative justice, not retributive 'justice'. The same can not be said for the administration.

Peter is a great guy who does an incredible amount in this community. I hope that his detractors can come to acknowledge this work.

He seems like a passionate guy

Obviously well-educated, intelligent. I would say that he cares for his community.

Thank you very much, Norm.
