[June 30th, 2008 update: link to full length video of public testimony (from city website): olympia.granicus.com /MediaPlayer.php?view_id=2&clip_id=359]

I noticed that those who supported the rezone proposal were allowed to speak both first and last at last night's meeting. Is that fair?

The full hearing will be aired on TCTV, at 12 noon on Friday and 7 pm on July 8th, local channel 3 (citation).

Probably nothing sinister there.

Usually people are allowed to speak in the order they sign up in.

speaking order

It was alternating pro/con all night long previously...

That was not the case on Tuesday, Rob

It was announced that people would NOT be called in the order in which they signed up, but the rationale behind the lineup that was used was never explained. Basically, members of Oly2012 and former Planning Commissioners were able to speak early in the evening, and some of the ordinary folks who arrived at 5:30 and signed up to speak never got a chance.

not called in order

are your serious? I didn't hear that, and that doesn't seem right to me. Although I thought a lot of the speakers did a good job, it only seems fair to allow people to speak in the order that they were signed up.

ratio of speakers

Would it have been fair to allow the opposing sides to speak publicly in proportion to their numbers. Opposition outweighed support by a factor of 2 to 1. Would it have been fair to allow public speakers to be weighted in that ratio?

I don't think it's right to allow supporters of the rezone proposal to have the first and last words.

The reason....

The reason TriWay spoke twice was because the people making the proposal speak first and last always. If you want to make a proposal then you would speak first and last.
