"I've decided to end the experiment." Rob, what experiment? Why did you end it? How? What is happening with Olyblog now? I would like to understand what's going on, and I think the entire community deserve to understand. Thanks in advance. Matthew

He threatened and bullied, and when I didn't agree with his remedy, he tried to have me voted off the island. Needless to say, this was not an appropriate or even ethical way to do succession planning (even assuming such a thing was necessary). In response, I ended the docent model, and am exploring new avenues for community participation. I'm inclined to try an open meeting format, during which we can work with issues on the blog (governance/planning), and do education about citizen journalism and blogging at the same time.

I suppose some folks might still be sold that bill of goods. Olyblog is still a great site, but let's not fool ourselves about it's governance any longer.
I appreciate your making us some lemonade though. ;-) Creating more face time might take away the sting. Not sure what was holding back the face time opportunities over the last year though.
Why invest?
Submitted by Rick on Thu, 07/24/2008 - 1:50pm.Because while "community" is grammatically a noun, it's functionally a verb, and the people who participated in OlyBlog over the last 18 months benefited from that process. OlyBlog is an instantiation (and sometimes catalyst) of community. And the blog itself is a lot richer for having gone through the process of experimentation with the docency. I have no doubt that the same thing will occur with the new model as well.

Submitted by Guglielmo on Thu, 07/24/2008 - 2:47pm.Olyblog is still a community (a noun), one in which I will probably still participate (a verb). The investment I am talking about is investment in community decision making, not whether or not to participate in the community. Like I said before, the reason I joined this site was because it was a generous gift from you to the community. There was a sense of agency here that I don't see on other blogs where I am simply a guest to someone's ego. I thought Olyblog was different, but now I've lost faith in that particular promise.
This is still a fine site and I appreciate you engaing others to help you make it so. I'm done complaining about something out of my control and I've said all I need to say about the change. Onward and upward. No spite, no resentments.
