No one wears masks or hoods or black. The police are welcomed and families feel safe and welcome. People chant about building things rather than tearing them down. Protestors are always courteous to their neighbors. Participants sing appropriate songs but don't yell or scream. Everybody smiles. Members self police and guide those who are straying from the rules. No one destroys property or harms others. Someone hires a PIO to put a good face on the protest. (Peace needs good PR) Those that choose civil disobedience should peacefully allow themselves to be arrested and removed. The police should arrest those who practice civil disobedience instead of escalating things with pepper spray etc. ...you may say I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one.
Anyone else care to imagine?

We will accomplish this amidst a family of mutually caring members--members who honor and encourage each others' individual dreams and talents, yet who balance personal fulfillment with enthusiastic support for the economic, spiritual and emotional well-being of all generations within the group. We will uphold principles of equality between all members regardless of race, creed, age, ability, income level, gender, sexual preference or sexual orientation. -on-site businesses -educational retreats -workshops -library -lectures -and possibly an on-site hostel.

I would like to start this next entry by offering my kind regards, to those who had the time to read my last piece. It is my understanding that some folks did not like it, and it was removed for content. I guess this took only a couple of minutes. So, I value your kind words and your ability to speed read. Clearly, in your instances, the public school system did not fail you. I guess that I am a square peg, trying to force fit myself into a round hole, on this sight and in this town. It's funny, a lot of folks here, preach tolerance and say what we think and say counts, but I guess when you buck the trend, or latest fad, you get tossed out on your bum here on Olyblog and in Olympia. I am amazed at how in-tolerant this community is, when it comes to opposing popular thought. I think this town stinks and it isn't getting any better. I have lived here now for 5-years, and it just seems that I keep hearing folks whine about how bad things are outside of this place, and because of that line of popular thought, we all have to suffer with public temper tantrums like last week and in November. The fact of the matter is simply this, most folks who are down to earth don't care if you are gay, straight, black, white or whatever... Folks care about how you conduct yourself, and how it impacts them in their daily life. I mean hey, if you want to make love to knot-holes in pines fences, go for it, just make sure it isn't my fence, and watch out for those splinters.

David Smith-Ferri is a writer who has published a collection of poems about his experiences traveling in Iraq. He has traveled to Iraq with Voices in the Wilderness, as well as other organizations, in order to bring some measure of relief to people who are suffering.
» Last night he was in Olympia. The Olympia FOR sponsored a speaking engagement at the Artisan's cafe. David read several poems and told many stories about his experience working with wounded Iraqi refugees, both in Iraq itself and in neighboring countries (Jordan mostly). The proceeds from his book, Battlefield Without Borders: Iraq Poems, are going to help with the Direct Aid Initiative (DAI), which serves Iraqi families who have extreme unmet medical needs. $12 from the sale of his book goes toward DAI, while Mr. Smith-Ferri keeps only $2 of the total. You can find out more about DAI, and make a secure online contribution by visiting www.electroniciraq.net. [read more..."if you can heal my child, please take him with you..." ]
