Sep 11 2008 - 1:00am Sep 11 2008 - 12:00pm OLYMPIA- Across the nation people are honoring the victims, volunteers and heroes of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack by making the day a day of service. They are volunteering at local nonprofits or making donations to causes they care about and spreading the word through to friends and families to participate as well. There are many opportunities to participate locally and service opportunities are easy to browse and sign up for at www.volunteer.ws the Web site for the Volunteer Center of Lewis, Mason and Thurston Counties. A volunteer-matching database allows potential volunteers to choose where they invest their valuable time based on interests, talents and availability. After participants volunteer or donate, they have the opportunity to share their thoughts and experiences on a blog for this important day of service at www.MyGoodDeed.org. Help this community transform 9/11 into a national day of service and change the world one good deed at a time! The Volunteer Center is a nonprofit organization which recruits and refers volunteers for nonprofit and public agencies, provides volunteer management training and consulting to these agencies and promotes volunteerism as a community value. The Center also participates in community initiatives including Long-Term Recovery Organizations work on disaster recovery, the Thurston County Asset-Building Coalition, Family and Youth Volunteering Initiatives as well as engaging Baby Boomers in meaningful public service.
