I tonight attended P.o.O.'s "Adopt-A-Garden Program" at the Olympia Center, Room B. Presenting were Andrea Fontenot, Sally Alhadeff and Jack Merrigan. I'm not going to pretend to be unbiased. The Port of Olympia is offering irrigated (if you want/need it) plots for sponsor designed, implemented and managed gardens along the eastern side of the Port Peninsula. Sizes apparently range from about 1000 to 2500 square feet. Sixteen total plots are available for sponsorship, four commercial and twelve civic (but permitted to themselves take on commercial sponsorship).
» If you're interested in sponsoring a garden the Port of Olympia encourages you to read about it here, and visit the Port Peninsula to see the plots with green markers (flags?). If you look and look but just can't find plot 2, then you didn't read this: plot 2 has been disqualified (rumor of steroid use was thick). Plots 13 - 17 are currently not on view. Low number plots should, due to location, see the greatest volume of eyes. Plots 15 & 16 are, in the current plans, only going to be accessible by gravel path to attempt to maintain some of the area's seclusion. The path would be an ADA approved compressed gravel, we were told. Applications are due by October 30, and an answer should be given by the end of November. If multiple groups/people/clubs wish to sponsor the same spot, then the sponsor is chosen by raffle. This opportunity made me giddy'n stuff, so I took the liberty of signing up as an interested member of a group: Olyart Project. If local artists are interested, I'm down for a cooperatively driven Olyart Garten. Please contact me. |
