OK, if you're sick of trying to find a chair at Batdorf, drinking burnt coffee at *bucks, or having nowhere to go when Vita closes at 8... check out Artisan's on Capitol Way between Browsers and the Broho.
They serve Batdorf coffee (ristretto shot style), have artspace for local artists, bread from The Bread Peddler, amazing sandwiches, and are set up for live music/poetry performances... plus they have the fastest wifi in town. Really. They're good value for the money, AND they're open until 11 on Friday and Saturday nights.

They opened yesterday, and I stopped in for the first time today, and I'm basically interviewing the owner as I type...

I'm putting this out there to direct people this way - let's support local business!

Stop by and post up what you think.

Coffee late into the night

What a concept.  I guess that is one thing that always perplexed me about Olympia, why do the coffee shops close so early?    Is Olympia just a snoozy kind of town?  No one wants coffee after 8 pm.  Maybe I'm just from another generation and another culture where the all night coffee shop was the norm.  Tom Waits would never have had a career without the late night coffee shop, not to mention Edward Hopper.

Nighthawks at the Diner....

Gonna be stuck in my mind all day.

"The bear claw walked down the counter and kicked the shit out of my cup of coffee.  Coffee was so weak it couldn't defend itself."

So much for Veritas. Maybe

So much for Veritas. Maybe they shouldn't have kept arbitrarily closing before 5:00. I'll give this new place a try.

Am I the only one...

.. that actually misses the OLD Batdorf and Bronson?  Sure they were crowded and the space was way small, but those were the days.  Still same early closing time, but the new place just doesn't do it for me like the old one.

You are

I most certainly like the new one better. A clean, well lit place for coffee.

I totally dig this place!

I totally dig this place! Got a tuna sandwich and a latte today. Both were great. Atmosphere is nice and lighting feels appropriate. I'd like to see this place in the evening with a band playing.

Do they have meeting space?

I was down there tonight, but wasn't able to peak in. I'm wondering because the Mud Bay up on the Westside had this great little room, but they don't stay open late anymore.
»

They do upstairs

Somewhere (maybe on the menu) it says you can rent out the loft for meetings/events. We went this morning and really liked it too, although it seemed a little expensive.

»

Expensive

The latte they made me was very good but a little pricey. The menu prices freak me out - $7.50 for a salad, $6.85 for a sandwich. Looks like they use really good ingredients such as The Bread Peddlar's breads, but still. Soup with bread for $3.00 though isn't bad.

Maybe I'm just behind the times and the price for everything went up while I was asleep?

And thank God for..

The end of Church subsidized coffee in Olympia, i.e. Veritas.

Oh, it wasn't that bad

Besides, nobody twisted your arm and made you go there.

Am I the only one...

who wishes (for years) that there was an all-night or at least late-night (until 2, 3) coffee shop in downtown?  11 is a huge improvement, and I'll definately check this place out, I go to vita altogether too often.

But I'll probably take out a smallbus. loan and start that really late-night one, and with falafel.  Am I the only one, again, that sees the huge falafel market in olympia?  A place with a quasi-seperate study/reading-oriented space, with falafel and latelate hours?  it would be amazing.  one day...sigh...
»

today I was wishing for...

a greenhouse coffeeshop. It would be enclosed, but with windows all over to bring in the light. Perhaps it could even be added to the roof of an existing downtown building? Also, there could be falafel.

Late night and Falafel

Yes, please.

I miss late night coffee houses. Also the easy access to delicious falafel I had years back at Pike Place Market in Seattle.

I'll take late night, falafel, and Meta's greenhouse idea. Thank you.

Somebody has to ask it. . .

Artisan's got free wi-fi?

I'm Telling You People

a $2.99 can of Hill's Brother's Double Mocha Cappuccino can't be beat! At the grocery stores that carry it they're upwards of $5.00 & more! (I can't tell you my secret store where I only pay $2.99 for it! They can hardly keep it on the shelves as it is! A thermal cup of water, 3 Tbsps (OK, so what if it calls for tsps, I like mine rich & chocolatey!) and wallah, killer cup a joe! One can makes 3-4 cappuccinos the way I make them with the snow shovel tablespoons, so maybe 6-8 if you use the weenie teaspoons!
