carried over from OMJP list.  There's an Evergreen College connection, but I think it's TESC Tacoma.  Wish it was happening in Thurston County.  Is it hyperlocal?  I don't know, wobblies might not really subscribe to a distinction between their aspirations where they are standing and organizing and the global concerns of the workers of the world.

The Industrial Workers of the World (I.W.W.) was founded over 100 years ago as a labor organization that believes in industrial unionism, industrial organizing, direct action and universal working class solidarity. The I.W.W. has sought to organize workers internationally into a One Big Union for the purpose of carrying on the day-to-day labor struggles from the greatest possible strength that can be organized and to build a new society within the shell of the old where class conflict no longer exists

I'll hyperlocal this.

The IWW (of which I am a proud member) is very active in Olympia and is building up steam for a pretty incredible project (more to come on that in the future). I'm really looking forward to this event as well. Should be a blast.

Excellent!

I'll Hyperlocal this!?! WTF!!!!!

This rip and paste press release isn't hyperlocal media. I dig the IWW too but having Rob pronounce he's a wob from Olywa doesn't turn a press release announcing an event in Tacoma into hyperlocal media. I'll hyperlocal this strikes me as media alchemy. Lead into gold. Base into acid. BS into...

The future plans of the Oly contingent of the IWW plans to do is hyperlocal, but the obtuse more to come on that in the future is not. It has nothing to do with what is planned in Tacoma and fails the 5W's test of journalism on all counts.

While I am not advocating this be taken down, (which I suppose if I rigidly stuck to my beliefs I should) it is fodder for the maddening R/L wing double standard debate.

Now if a press release from Tacoma is deemed hyperlocal media I retract my comment.

I share your concern about the hyperlocal angle

and I have not been a fan of the idea that all of our posts have to be hyperlocal. I think the hyperlocal thing is pretty difficult to sort out some of the time.

Yikes!

I think an event happening in Tacoma that a group of Olympians are attending as part of community organizing and networking is hyperlocal. I apologize for not saying more about our plans, it's just not time to make announcements about it yet. I'm also sorry that my using the phrase "I'll hyperlocal this" made you feel the way it did.

Mike questioned the hyperlocalness of his post, and I merely wanted to help draw the connection. Local people are going to this event, and will be bringing back knowledge that will benefit our community.

I'll stick to my comment.

I respectfully disagree with your definition of hyperlocal and will leave it at that. (Almost)

Now that I've complained let me offer a possible solution to my all so ruffled feathers :) Perhaps this item should have appeared as a community announcement rather than a blog entry. A distinction with a subtle but relevant difference.

Anyway, thank you Rob for your contributions to Olyblog and your thankless work as a docent.

It passes my local test...

...but that's probably not saying much.

the I.W.W. dont like bums

the wobs used to be a party for the poor but now a days is just an outlet for the disaffected youth. get back to the roots and outreach to the poor. "hallelujah I'm a bum, hallelujah I'm a bum again" eat the rich the poor are skinny
